  • Just got back from watching 2001: A Space Odyssey at our local art house cinema. Glorious

Fuck, those sets hold up so well on the big screen.

  • Just got back from watching 2001

I'm going to a screening on Friday - can't wait!

  • I saw it at the BFI on friday night. Never bored of seeing it. So good.

  • we were considering going straight into 2001 last night after Withnail - did see it a couple of years ago though - might go this week

  • I don't think they are showing Withnail up this way - gutted.

That would have made a great lads night out. One on my riding pals is a massive Withnail & I fan. Constantly quoting...

  • Tx, that's what I get for drinking soluble instead of Real coffee

  • Me too! I was a little surprised at the screen/seating angles they're getting away with there but it still looked amazing.

  • Yup. I was in the back row so i got to use the back of the cinema as a headrest which was nice.

  • Interstellar - better than I expected, very variable film but glad I went.

2001 - Utterly wonderful, the effects are still better than both Gravity and Interstellar, the music andf sound are immense. The StarGate scene might well be the greatest ever..

  • Fury was awesome, haven't seen a good/horrific war film in ages.

  • Just seen that this evening.

I could have stayed in and played COD against sweary fifteen year olds. Back to back clichés, chanting/screaming Nazis? :-(

    Stinker.

  • Yup, awesome!

  • I thought they were both amazing (nymph 1&2).

It was a long time ago I watched his Dancer in the Dark but I remember it totally blew me away.

I need to check out Melancholia I guess.

  • Watch it all. Breaking the Waves is terrific. I think Dogville is great as well, but I think its a film that really stands out if you've seen his other stuff first.

  • Melancholia was a revelation - wouldn't mind seeing it again and again, but it would have to be in a decent cinema. Dancer in the Dark - blimey that final scene had everyone in the house shedding big wet tears, such a manipulative director but you kind of want that in cinema sometimes.

  • LWLie's top 25 snippety snippets.

I'm glad they put Under the Skin in there. Maybe the most haunting/memorable films I've seen for a while.

  • definitely - loathe to watch it again for what it will do to my psyche

  • Gyllenhaal is one creepy dude in nightcrawler.

  • Only Lovers Left Alive.

Cool sitcom and maybe the only good vampire movie since 1931?

  • Breaking the Waves

Overall a pretty upsetting film! A tough watch (like some of his others I guess) but this one really rang true – it's not a far-fetched story at all. Spellbinding acting. Glorious ending.

I've seen Emily Watson on stage and she's fucking rad. ^this role was close-quarters subtle film acting and she's remarkable. No problem with the format. She got oscar nominations for her 1st two films followed by a string of shit roles. She was a love interest in an Adam Sandler film (apparently) and the cardboard mum in Warhorse :-/

  • Horrible, isn't it? That fucking bus scene.

It sets the pattern for dogme in a way, as well. But I like it much more than The Idiots.

  • Kingdom is about the only thing of his i liked.

watching his films can be physically painful. and none of his films have patrick swayze in them. NONE OF THEM.

  • I remember fuck all from the kingdom except the kids and the Swedish doctor who hated Denmark. I'm going to rewatch it.

  • anyone catch the vastly inferior septic remake, that was mysteriously tagged as 'Stephen King's Kingdom Hospital'?

i'll watch anything with Udo Kier in it.
