  • Dromarti?

You can still buy old style cycling shoes now called something like 'touring shoes'. There is a UK company that advertises in the back of the CTC magazine.

  • There's also the chrome and dzr ones where you can cut out the sole to fit a cleat.

  • thanks guys
miro_o whats the deal with ATACS/high float cleats?
i was previously using shimano xtr mtb cleats

  • Float is the amount of free movement you have when clipped in. The consensus is lots of float is good for some knee problems. There might be a pedals that works with your injury.

Time Atacs are mtb pedals and have 5° of float and some lateral float. Most road pedals have different cleats, some of which give different amounts of float. For example Look Keo pedals have black cleats (fixed float), Grey cleats (4.5° float) and red cleats (full float).

  • strange. I wear size 9 shoes normally and got the size 45 Bont's which fit perfect.

That is 2 sizes up, though. I'm a size 9 and take a Sidi in 44.

  • The Bont FootSize-O-Matic on their website swore blind that a 44.5 would fit me like a glove.

My "index" toe hit the end of the shoe.

  • thanks guys

You could also try Speedplay Zero, which have totally free float.

I use ATAC's on the fixed and CX bike, and Zero's on the road bike.

    1.75 actually.

  • Neil, if you're interested you can try my kindof fucked pair of Bonts to see if you get on with them? Bit late now I realise that you've bought some new Sidi's.

  • ^nice find

  • I know this is unlikely, but if anyone has a brand new pair of Dominators in 46 Mega that they'd like to swap for a 45.5 (regular), let me know... After ordering a pair of 45.5s I've decided they're just slightly short/narrow and as the place I ordered doesn't have the size I want in stock, I'm not keen to return them and pay the extra postage.

  • Sidas and Specialized ones fit Sidis.

  • Quick question - Is the Mavic Rush MTB shoe the exact same as the Mavic Razor?

  • Mavic Rush from Royles.

£60 with next day tracked delivery and bloody brilliant customer service.

    royles.biz

  • They also have a good deal on Giro Guage shoes, reasonable range of sizes.

  • Need some advice on the SIDI range please.

I can get the SIDI Eagle 5 pro from Scottby cycles for 111 pounds posted http://www.scotbycycles.co.uk/clothing-c1/shoes-c7/sidi-eagle-5-pro-mountain-biking-spd-cycling-shoes-silver-white-blue-p944

                                                     OR

SID Eagle 6 Carbon from Germany for 155 pounds (sorry no pound symbol on my aussie keyboard). http://www.bike24.com/1.php?content=8;navigation=1;menu=1000,18,58;product=13229

Both offer the same exchange/ refund service, only difference is the postage to Germany will be a little more if I need to change them.

First question, are the Eagle 6 carbons worth the extra 45 pounds?

Second question re sizing again, should I buy according to my UK standard shoe size or should I run off the sidi sizing chart foot length. http://www.bicyclehero.com/us/sidisizechart/

  • carbon soles are a lot more comfortable on long rides and have solved my hot spots problem. I wouldn't commute in them though, too stiff - so it depends what you want to do in them.

  • Thanks Dan, taken on board

  • I commute in Sidi carbon soles and don't have a problem with them at all (but, admittedly, I don't know how luxurious the normal ones are in comparison!).

Worth bearing in mind the more expensive ones have replaceable soles though...

  • Carbon it is then. How about sizing. What's the deal? Half the folks out there say buy your normal street shoe size the other half say go up a size or 2.

  • I suggest trying them on.

  • +1

Or at least another Sidi road shoe from the current range.

  • I live in the middle of the woods in a Narnian shithole.

Closest Sidi stockist is an eternity away. Trying on is not an option.

  • FWIW I gambled my normal size and they fit perfectly (MTB). I'm not sure if those who advise sizing up are talking about road shoes (which I believe are marginally smaller) or planning on wearing two pairs of socks but in my case it would have been a mistake to do so. Thin socks FTW!
