  • Cycle Surgery have just got in next years line up of Sidis. And we're finally stocking Mega (In Ergo, Genius, and Fives, not in dominators.... yet)

  • Are Dominators always a bit creaky after a while? Can't tell if it's coming from the cleats, plates, straps, pedals (Aliums) or what. The cleats are newish and I wear the shoes pretty tight.

  • Did you grease your cleat bolts?

  • Maybe not enough. I'm scared of over-tightening them as I sheared the plate doing that last time.

  • i have two brand new pairs of these^, if anyone is after them - sizes 11 and 12

You mean any size you like, so long as you have a pair of scissors.

  • I've also just experimented with a new technique to squeeze more life out of the soles. Did it on my Dragons, to adjust for a 1mm shim I've got between the cleat and the sole i.e. get an extra 1mm depth on the lugs.

Took out the 2 inserts either side of the cleat; drew round them on an old (sliced open) inner tube; cut out inner tube bits; poked holes in them for screws; sandwiched them between sole and lugs.

Seems to work well - gives that tiny extra bit of clearance for the cleat, but doesn't interfere with the lugs seating properly.

Will do it on the Eagles in a few years' time…

Nice idea Scarlett, will do that the next time my Sidis are dry enough to handle.

  • What y'all using to grease yer cleats people? And where precisely should one put it?

  • Umm, grease...on the thread of the screw...

  • And under the head of the screw/bolt, or smeared in the cleat holes.

  • Does anyone have any experience with repairing scratched or battered Sidis?

I have some SIDI Ergo 2 Carbon Lite Vernices that are almost new, but yesterday I clipped a curb with my left foot and it’s left a pretty nasty scrape in the material of the shoe on the outside of the shoe just under the Velcro strap. It’s not so bad that it’s torn through to the inside, but enough that the soft inner portion of the material is showing. Aside from being a bit ugly, I figure this is going to cause a problem the next time the shoe gets wet.

I've tried to find some official Sidi contact details, but for the UK all I can find are bigbear.co.uk, who I guess are dealers/distributors. I've e-mailed them and am waiting for a response. I'm not banking on Sidi helping me out though.

Anyone have any ideas on the best way to patch these up? I was thinking maybe fill the scratch with superglue or a resin or some kind, try and sand it a bit so it's all blended and sealed? I seem to be having trouble Googling for decent advice. I thought it would be fairly common because the damage is pretty much what you'd expect if you'd fallen from the bike and scraped the shoe on the ground (same area that'd be hit too) and figure this must happen a fair bit. No dice though.

  • Try this.

  • Awesome! I'd heard of it, but I thought it was just a glue for soles and stuff, didn't realise it was a sealant as well. Ordered, ta.

  • My dad used it on his running shoes for years. Be aware, that it is incredibly sticky and needs to be handled with patience.

  • Quite appropriate...Bigbear have gotten back to me; they've spoken to Sidi and Sidi have asked for photos. Have to say, that's more than I was expecting and super quick from them.

I've actually had another proper look at the shoes and they're not that bad, it just looks worse because the poncy 'vernice' finish has come off so the damage looks deeper than it actually is. I'll get pictures though for Sidi and see what they say.

  • the best sidi's ever

  • Which model are they?

  • I'm finding it really hard to find Sidis (Eagles or Dominators) for my midget feet and now I finally have a 37, I can't decide whether they're too small.

There's some room at the back and I can move my toes around but when I walk around, my toes are creeping towards the front of the shoe. Above posts suggest this isn't a problem when you're actually cycling - can anyone verify that? Will they stretch a bit? Should I go for the 38 and stick insoles in?

Thanks for any advice you can give me.

  • I'd go for 38s with an insole, which you can remove in the winter if you're doubling up on socks / wearing thick ones. Especially if the 37s feel snug in the morning, before your feet have swollen.

Any hint of toes meeting the front of your shoe will result in discomfort whilst riding… eventually.

  • In my experience these shoes don't stretch. They're all made out of modern materials and tend to keep their shape.

  • take the insoles out, they are shite anyways.
    always remove mine

  • You just ride without them, or replace them with something else?

  • ride without always

  • thanks guys. I've just found a 37.5 Dominator. Will give them a whirl!
