  • does anyone know what model the batman-looking sidi's are from a few years back? they aren't in the current lineup but they are very sleek looking, matte black suede-type material, minimal graphics etc...

  • You could try 'SHOEGOO'. You can get it on ebay for about £5. It is a clear or black glue that stays flexible when dry. I used to use it to patch up/ protect shoes when I used to skateboard. It's water/ weatherproof too.

Does anyone have any experience with repairing scratched or battered Sidis?

I have some SIDI Ergo 2 Carbon Lite Vernices that are almost new, but yesterday I clipped a curb with my left foot and it’s left a pretty nasty scrape in the material of the shoe on the outside of the shoe just under the Velcro strap. It’s not so bad that it’s torn through to the inside, but enough that the soft inner portion of the material is showing. Aside from being a bit ugly, I figure this is going to cause a problem the next time the shoe gets wet.

I've tried to find some official Sidi contact details, but for the UK all I can find are bigbear.co.uk, who I guess are dealers/distributors. I've e-mailed them and am waiting for a response. I'm not banking on Sidi helping me out though.

Anyone have any ideas on the best way to patch these up? I was thinking maybe fill the scratch with superglue or a resin or some kind, try and sand it a bit so it's all blended and sealed? I seem to be having trouble Googling for decent advice. I thought it would be fairly common because the damage is pretty much what you'd expect if you'd fallen from the bike and scraped the shoe on the ground (same area that'd be hit too) and figure this must happen a fair bit. No dice though.

  • Oh whoops I didn't the last few posts DOH!

  • Yep, I did go with the Shoe Goo and it's holding up great. I need it again, in fact, after a mishap last weekend put yet another scrape in the shoe.

I'm also using it in a precautionary function; big dollop of it squeezed over the toe of the left shoe. I always unclip with my left foot and when I put my foot down while still on the saddle, I tend to be on the tip of the shoe and sometimes it can scuff the leather where it meets the sole. Now the shoe is protected by the goo and I'm a happy boy. Despite the fact that there is goo all over the shoe, it still looks as good as new unless you look closely. Top product, A+, would buy again etc. etc.

  • Good for scuffed saddles too.

  • My 2 pennys worth...
Just made the decision to go clipless again. I got some Sidi dominators from Cycle Surgery. I'm a UK 9 normally and the 44s fitted perfectly. I printed off a page from Wiggle as they have the shoes on sale at the mo for £155 and CS matched the price. I also printed a page from Tredz.co.uk as they have Time Aliums for £35.
So I got shoes (rrp £195) and pedals (rrp £48) for under £200 and I got to try shoes on before I bought.

  • which cycle surgery was this?

  • Is there's much sizing difference between the Sidi and Mavic shoes? i.e. Mavic 44 mean I'll need a slightly bigger sidi or should be fine?

ordered the Dominator Mega in 44, and now read that you'll need to get it a size or two bigger.

  • always go up a size with sidi's. In every other shoe I'm a 43, in Sidi's I'm a 44..

  • Bugger, look like it's the old Mavic for the DD run, is your Sidi a Mega though?

the Mavic was fine, fit me nicely, until I've done a couple of centuries, my feet gone numb (and still is to this day), I realised I needed a slightly wider shoes (hence Mega), looking at the option I opt for Sidi to try out since they're highly praised, I did tried Shimano, Specialized, Pearl Izumi and Bontrager, but I didn't find them as comfty as the Mavic.

it's supposed to be delivered today, fecking City Link's useless when it stated my delivery to be 'between 7.30am to 17.30pm'.

  • why change something as important as shoes before a long ride? what happens if the new shoes are even more uncomfortable?
    thinking fail.

  • Because tomorrow I got a nice 50 miles ride to try out the sidi to see if it make any difference, providing the mega 44 turn out to fit (which I doubt).

  • What Mr Smyth said ^

It takes a couple of weeks for shoes to become comfortable anyway IMO

  • Frankly, I'd rather ride with a different shoes than the Mavic, it's a horrible feeling riding with numb feet.

If you have high volume feet. I'd recommend Northwaves, they a wide last and a roomy toe box.

You can usually get the upper of a cycling shoe to fit quite well. So you can be fooled in the shop. After a few km's on the road the size of the last becomes important.

I have a couple pairs of NW aerlites. One brand new, and one well used. You can feel the suitable difference in the footbed where the wooden last has deformed.

I not sure how many shoes employ a wooden last though. You pay a weight penalty for it.

  • Just got em.

much more comfortable, especially when it's wider, my feet are a little flatter than usual so end up having to tighten it a little more, but netherless a massive improvement.

the stiffness is lovely, the ol' mavic flex like a noodle in comparison.

  • Forget I have some really good insoles from my original shoes.

fitted them in, and they're like a glove.

    win!

  • I recently got some Sidi Genius 5s (the road equivalent of Dominator 5s) and they fit very nicely. One thing to watch though is that the cheaper Sidi Raidens that I used to own in 2007 were quite a loose 43 but these Genius 5s are a very snug 43. There seems to be a difference in sizing between Sidis.

Back to my point. Fucking lovely shoes.

  • .

  • the best sidi's ever

    what model are these?

  • which cycle surgery was this?

I went to Spitalfields but they price match at all branches.

  • I was looking at my sidi's today.

I bought them when I joined this forum. They're still going strong...

  • Just killed the base plate on my dominators.
I went to change the cleats (shimano mtb style) and used the new bolts that came with cleats, overtightened and managed to snap the inner baseplate bit. I can now see that the shimano bolts are different to the sidi ones.
I've managed to get the plate out and rotate him 180 to use the other side so I should be ok for a bit.

Can you get replacement bolts and baseplates for sidi mtb shoes? My google skills are failing me.
I found these http://www.probikekit.com/uk/clothing/mens/cycling-clothing/shoes/sidi-dura-ace-adapters.html maybe I can just use the metal bit from these??
