Stolen bikes

  • Ah, good thinking, i've taken it off gumtree, and will keep my eyes open!

...no definitely not the neighbours (i think) there's no access across balconies, only up and down and that's difficult enough. They would need to get a bloody great big ladder into the ground floor flats garden (and they have a 7ft wall around that), and then up 3 balconies, then get the thing down... can't believe it.

    :(

  • Maybe the person above? it might be easier for them to lower themselves down., Just a thought. but some of these guys can get almost any where when they want.

  • Was it locked to anything on the balcony? Cos when I was a student living in dorms we used a meat hook on a rope to take the chairs of the balcony below. Surprisingly because we could look onto the balcony below. (more of a joke, we gave em back eventually)

It also sounds really hard for some one outside your building to scale a 7ft wall in clim up to the 3rd floor balcony, get the bike climb down, go back over the wall with the bike. Plus some one needs to have spotted it as well on your balcony... I would look closer to home.

I wouldnt underestimate these cunts, theres been a few bike stolen from balconys. wouldnt put it past them to scout during the day to see whats on where and come back with a ladder at night

  • from google maps:

balcony not accesible from left or right as it's 'sunk' into the building, only up and down. could have taken it from above, but i know James quite well!! it must have been from down low.

  • Does look like a simple climb up the balcony job, especially with those perfectly placed rails half way up.

Keep an eye out on ebay, paint work like that should stand out a mile.

  • Hen12y, I'm in the area so will keep an eye out. Make sure to get down to Brick Lane early on sunday and have a look.

  • My commiserations and everything, but does that balcony face onto the open street? I wouldn't want anyone knowing where my bike lived, even if it was locked and a couple of stories up.

When you say 3rd floor do you actually mean 2nd (ie, ground, first, second)? Was it locked to anything on the balcony? Shit news anyroad, look out on BL for sure.

  • There are some guys that seem to be selling a lot of stolen bikes in Stepney through gumtree. I wouldnt be suprised if it is them

  • Sorry to hear about your Langster man. Looks like a long ladder job or a rope and hook from the roof... I had a "London" ed a few years ago. Used to get alot of looks.... I may be up BL this weekend so will scout out.
If anyone going by there too please keep eye out for my planet X and Cannondale nicked a few weeks ago. Post 3556...
I have kept a proper eye on all the sites and nothing yet, even parts etc..... takes about half hour of my day! Anything at all..07737335296.
Do a search on ebay then save it and it notifies you of your search in the UK. I simply have Cannondale mountain bike and I get sent ALL of them by email. Hopefully the thick fu&*^%$ dont know this and put the bike name on.
Also google regulary and if it was on Gumtree then removed it comes up as cached and at least you can see if it has gone on then been removed and also try a few different cities...

    Hope that helps.

  • Commiserations, Henry. As others have said, that balcony is easy to climb up to. It's a real problem when flats don't have proper bike parking that balconies advertise bikes so openly. There have been other thefts like this, including one from the 5th floor. If there is any further progress, please post here or send me a PM if you don't want the info to be public--I'm very interested in the details of such cases, police response, etc. Good luck with finding it!

  • hen12y...your bike is here on gumtree...Give a call to this b****** and try to get your bike back...
Just pretend you are someone interested on the bike..and want to have a look, this is the best way I guess...
Hope you have a luck with that!!!

best not publises, it is an open forum. He has already been PM'd about the bike. Good work though

Immense darts Bikeranger. Someone get Henry!

  • I can't see red bar plugs or tyre valves? Is this not another OTP Langsta?

  • Thanks, please dont contact the seller, police have been notified and my own plans are unfolding, will update you all tonight... cheeky bugger listing something as identifyable as that less than 12 hours after it's stolen!

It's a google images pic. just type "specialized langster" and that appears on the front page.

though i'm not 100% sure it's mine for clarity, just the same model, size, colour, as the one which was stolen from me last night, listed for sale less than a mile away from me this afternoon...

  • I think that counts as reasonably suspicious.

  • ok not the best use of quote but i do check the regularly so I would have deleted it

  • I got my bike back! Picked it up last night outside the Foundry from the nice lad who rescued it, and he had indeed fixed the broken spoke. Star.

  • How did he obtain it? Is he on here?

  • Been a busy few weeks for the thieves: taken from bike storage in my building in Camden, my grey, Condor Fratello, with 60th anniversary stickers, frame number 01081144. Probably got a Faghettaboutit still between the wheel and the frame...
    Fuckers.

To clarify ... "Probably got a Faghettaboutit still between the wheel and the frame" ... the Faghettaboutit wasn't comprised, but whatever it was attached to, was?
(sorry for your loss, eyes peeled)
