So they also had to brake into the locked secure storage thing! i.e. they had to know there was a decent bike in there, or are there a whole row of these things and you just got unlucky that they picked yours?

I reckon someone had spotted me going in and out with it. The door to the store wasn't broken (and it's not ever left open or unlocked as far as I know). They decided to leave the pile of cheapo mountain bikes and little girl bikes with streamers.
Sod the landlord, I'm screwing in a floor bolt next time.

How did he obtain it? Is he on here?
He found it where I had left it, unlocked. Then put it on gumtree saying he wanted to return it. Lucky. Thanks again to TomTM for finding the ad.

though i'm not 100% sure it's mine for clarity, just the same model, size, colour, as the one which was stolen from me last night, listed for sale less than a mile away from me this afternoon...
Any luck?

That's brilliant, how rare but heartening to hear of someone so honest, hope you bought him a good drink!

Any luck?
Unfortunately not. I spoke to "Mark" friday at 3pm, and he said i could come round either that evening of the following day, i said i'd have to see when i could get out of work, rang the local CID who said if i insised on going round they couldnt stop me, and they would feel obliged to go with me, however it is against the rules for them to suggest i go as that technically counts as them getting me to spy on him!
...they said if i gave less than an hours notice they would be unable to convince me not to go, and would have to go with me, and the best time for this would be sometime after 1am on Saturday (wink wink nudge nudge).
But marks phone went dead by 5pm and has been off since (pay as you go sims swapped?!?) so i was unable to meet. Went to Brick lane sunday, but didnt get there till about 11 so missed it, if it was even there in the first place. So insurance money here i go...!

Gutted, after such initial hope. Get yourself something very shiny with the insurance money to make up for it.

Man, I share the frustration. Parts of my stolen bikes are now appearing on ebay and the Police will do little as I cannot identify them with numbers etc. Whats happened to going round and having a chat with them, maybe it will make them think twice in future.
I tell the Police I believe my parts are on ebay. They do nothing. File and forget it. I understand why but its a poor system when basic investigations are not followed through.

There may be some developments but if little happens i'll post it up in a couple of days and we can bid them up to a couple of mill! They have turned up 170 miles from me. Exactly the same items and very specific for tt bike. The seller has even brought a bb removal tool. Prob to flog the Dura Ace crankset next week...........

hi guys....
Yesterday afternoon i was walking in brick lane area and a really dodgy guy stopped me and he said that he had something for me,for my bike...
He had,in his car a hplus rim, laced to a halo hub!!
It was definetely stolen.
I asked him where he got it and he said he was getting rid of some bike parts,so i asked if he had more but he said that was the last bit left!
Bullshit.
He offered it for 80 quid,i told him that i had his car plate and that i would call the police.
In the end i took it for 25 pounds just because i wanted to post it in here....Probrably i did the wrong thing, but ididnt know what to do and someone else would buy it for sure....
I really dont want this wheel and probrably i shouldnt even bought it,but better me and a post here that someone else...
If you know someone that lost a rear wheel give me a shout!!!
I will obviously need a perfect description of the wheel.
Cheers
ivan

Right,
Some fucker stole my girlfriend's brooks saddle and post on Sunday from near brick lane.
I know it'll never turn up again, but still... gotta try!
It was a chopped (by Skully) b17 special in brown, and attached to a campy aero seatpost. The post was unique in that it had a very short aero area (maybe 6cm?) and was designed for her small proportions.
The brooks saddle was a gift from me :-(
Anyway pix (these were with another seatpost btw):
Full set at http://www.flickr.com/photos/21758992@N08/sets/72157610844713476/
I'll give a generous reward if by some miracle you find it.
By the way, I am fairly convinced it was nicked by a dodgy guy on a small metal mountain bike. He was riding up and down looking around at everyone's stuff. Big guy, black with long dreads. I could be wrong of course but he looked like he was scouting for stuff. Anyone seen anyone that fits the bill?
Cheers,

Bummer. Good luck dude. Just been looking for mine on ebay and gumtree. Problem is that i didn't have any decent pics of it and it doens't really have any distiguishing features. Next time will get Skully to stamp it "STOLEN" or something. Actully. that's not a bad idea!

As a little "bike identity problem" fix, for every bike I have owned since I started work as a bike mechanic, I always get a sheet of paper and print "THIS BIKE HAS BEEN STOLEN. CALL ME 07WHATEVER. DANIEL SIMSON. BLAH BLAH. CALL ME." Laminated it, cut it up into little squares and slip them in my bar, under grips, in the frame, seatpost, seat tube, bottom bracket, tyres, anywhere I could. So if a cnut gets hold of my bike, and mistakenly takes it to get a puncture fixed, hopefully the mechanic would call. Just a little extra you can do, i spose.

Just got this email from Cyclefit
Apart from generally getting in touch, I’m hoping you can help me. We had a Colnago EPS stolen from the shop yesterday – someone just walked in without setting off the door buzzer and walked out with it! I wanted to post a message on the LFGSS forum, but my membership is “in the nursery”, since I’ve never posted anything there before. Would you be willing to post up a “Look out for this stolen bike” thread?
It’s a very distinctive bike. Colnago EPS, size 52 sloping, in the new Matte Black finish with a matching seatpost. Serial number: X3D470. There are only 10 frames with this finish in the country. It’s been built up with 2007 Record with a Stella Azzurra Rapido crankset, Cosmic Carbon wheels, Deda Presa carbon bars, Deda Zero 100 stem. Anyone who finds it is advised to contact the police. And we’d like to know, too (info@cyclefit.co.uk).

my langster has still not turned up, so now assuming it never will, the insurance company asked me if i wanted another - only available in black now though, black's a bit dull for me so i got one of the 2010 genesis flyers in blue which looks like a reasonable replacement given the bike radar review: http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/urban/product/flyer-10-36093
stolen and down... but not out!!!

• #3773
Sorry to hear it, Henry. Gutting. Flyer is seksi though, so not all bad.
Will keep eye open for the EPS.
And that laminated message in the tubes trick sounds worth doing just in case. -

Just had a call from a friend on Englefield Road, he's just seen a sketchy looking dude, hood up, dirty tracksuits, riding unclipped/dangerously on a dark blue/purple frame, black trick forks, risers and gold deep section rims.
Anyone lost/heard about anything?

this thread is so sad, it's like a long list of missing babies
clarification: yes, Faghettaboutit was between front wheel and frame. Presumably not compromised during theft, as bike was 'secured' to the bike stand by a cable lock (one of those wall-mounted hangers that are too tight to squeeze a Fahghettaboutit through). Some bolt cutters would have chomped through the cable pretty easily, I guess (cable lock was a Specialized, 'Sold Secure Silver', but more secure than the screws the hanger was attached to...), and the bike carried out. It was locked inside a supposedly secure, and out of sight, bike store in my block of flats, behind three electronically locked doors, so I guess someone living there must have decided to help themselves or a friend...
Thanks for keeping a look out.
