Hi there, my Condor Pista got nicked outside The Albion pub on Broadway Market in Hackney on Thursday night. If anyone sees it I'd appreciate a heads-up. Thanks!
Here's a pic:

It was an Abus Granit Steel O Flex 1000, they cut through it like a piece of string. I still have the lock which they just discarded on the ground and it there was obviously no struggle.
I was in the pub for around 2 hours (8-10pm) and the bike was locked up right outside the front door.

Bike crime hotspot alert!

steel o-flex is a badly flawed lock - bolt cutters applied to the joins between the cylinders just go through the gap and straight to the wire inside, which isn't strong enough on its own to resist them.
sorry to hear about your bike, of course

It's still listed as Bicycle Gold on Sold Secure which is silly, as Captain Cropper videoed them being cut easily with £30 Machine Mart cable cutters back in 2007.

Thanks guys. Any tips on a good lock to replace it with? After seeing that captain cropper vid, I don't think I'll be getting another Steel O Flex in a hurry...

Saw an all black Specialized fixed gear with silver brake levers and tyres that are black on the side and red on top being ridden down Mile End road in Whitechapel by a very unlikely and wobbly looking fellow, leading me to think it was stolen. Also a slack chain.

Sumo, can we have more details please? Theres been a string of thefts of expensive bikes lately and myself and a few others think its the same guy.

Woah, I think we've got slightly different definitions of 'trustafarian'. I meant it in a 'if I'm nice to other people, they'll be nice to me' way, ie. trusting. I didn't mean it in a 'daddy gives me money' way at all. No, I'm definitely no trusta in either definition.
My point was, don't leave your bike where it can been seen/nicked.
Aha...the dictionary term for trusta...is the one I took offence to, sorry, I have never heard other one!! Apologies for biting your head off...;D...In (2 we have been your term of trusta as in...we know every one here and have done for donkeys ...so that would rule out almost all of my immediate neighbours which over 60 studios means I know maybe 40 of them...we are a very trusting bunch.
It'ds only when someone that visits and leave the door open do we have the same shit as we did a while back, which was...if it's not bolted down...we had a bunch of travellers/squatters next to the railway station, that we know some of, though they are as dodgy as fuck ...
and luckily, they only stayed for 3 months...we had 5 bikes go while they wre there...
so any way...moving along swiftly...anyone see a motobecane super 72??

The guy was wearing some garish jeans with a big picture down the right leg, looked like a tiger face or something. He had a shaved head, rough shaved and looked around 40ish. That's all I can tell you I'm afraid, I was sat in starbucks while my bike was in the shop.

I left on my bike for an interview this morning, left the house and realised I had the small cable lock. Thought to myself; interview is a priority get to that bike will be fine for 20 mins...
I left the lock, prob should have taken it, it looked like it had been done witha a pair of wire clippers.
Stolen from the big bike racks at the bottom before the traffic lights.
Never will I lock my bike in London without my heavy duty d-lock again.

Hey Guys,
My friend had his bike stolen over the weekend. It was a blue charge plug medium frame i think. It is the one with the bull horns. It has been left standard but with power straps and possible the back brake removed.
It was stolen from a securely gated block on Hackney road and Columbia road by the vintage funiture shop. To get to where the bike was kept there is a 7 or 8 foot gate with spikes on the top. It is was also well out of sight. He thought it would be safe just locking it up with a Abus granit steel o flex. Unfortunetly it was quite a large time frame it could have been stolen from between Friday night and sunday morning. Ive told him to check BL and gumtree, but if any one see's one can you pop me a PM please.
Thanks

Perhaps an inside job?
-
• #3620
Yeah perhaps. They are quite expensive flats so you'd hope it wasnt but it cant be ruled out. They may know that bikes are kept there and a couple energetic people. Ive told him to contact his landloard and obviously the usual people police and what not.

Well good news on the bike front, It was found on gumtree and has now been reclaimed.
-
• #3622
Ha!
Any details of how this happened?
-
• #3623
He found it on gumtree and we went around with the frame number and gave them the altermatum, bike or police! And just cycled it away!
-
• #3624
yeah kind of, that wasnt the exact picture of the bike though so the must have stolen one before. They also had a langster and specalized hybrid as well
-
• #3625
Dont really want to report it to the police because they know where is was stolen from
Doesn't look dodgy to me... decent feedback, no other bikes for sale, no bikes sold in recent feedback.
Just a rubbish bike which he/she probably bought in the wrong size.
