  • ^ A friend of mine was going to buy that Plug but consulted me about it first. He said the guy sounded well dodgy and offered him the bike for £220 if he came to get it from Limehouse station. I told my mate it was a bad idea and was probably nicked. My friend even offered the guy the full price if he came a bit further into town to sell it, but he flatly refused. Stolen.

  • Yeah it was last seen on friday night at 6, so they must have stolen it then.

  • Hold on, the Charge Plug that was just posted up was the one that was recovered?

  • Max: yep that charge was recovered. They are using a different picture to the actual bike. Because my friend had power straps that were still attached.

I didnt see the langster it was just offered to us and if we knew anyone who wanted one. And the Specialized was a sirrus i think. this one http://www.gumtree.com/london/00/56163700.html A kid came to meet us on it,

  • Dont really want to report it to the police because they know where is was stolen from

Neil, under-reporting of bike theft is a serious problem. These people sound like serial thieves.

  • Yeah I know it is a problem, but they are just kids so all that will happen is they get a caution and then want to put some nice holes in my friend or me.

  • Just fucking report it.

  • Yeah I know it is a problem, but they are just kids so all that will happen is they get a caution and then want to put some nice holes in my friend or me.

I understand that, Neil, but you don't have a gentlemen's agreement with them not to report it, do you? If they attack you following your reporting of them, the police should be really on their case. Also, another possible outcome is that they'll be known to police and possibly deterred from stealing bikes.

Sorry if I sound naïve, but I'm afraid I don't have first-hand experience of how this sort of thing works out in practice.

  • You are exactly right, Oliver.

  • I do know that, but with these little kids an attack wont be a traditional man to man like us country boys like, they usually involved multiple people some with weapons. Ive seen them fight around the area it was found and I dont want either of us caught up in that because you may not be left in a position to report it!

  • well i'll tell my friend he should report it as it was his bike and he has the crime number.

  • So given that he has a crime reference number, he had already reported it, after all?

I really don't understand this fully. When you went round, you were happy to give them the ultimatum 'bike or police'. Now, having already reported it, you're shying away from reporting the recovery back to the police? Are you worried that you should have involved them when you went to recover the bike?

Don't get me wrong, Neil, I know perfectly well that in the current climate people often find it necessary to take action without polic involvement, but I'm just wondering how this all works.

  • Not sure why you didn't get the cops to come with you to get the bike back in the first place? Now all you've got is a thief who got away with it who will continue to steal bikes and just get better at not getting caught. So the next guy's bike he steals, it'll be gone forever and that #$%& thief will still be walking around free. All because you showed him how to do it.

    Am I missing something here?

  • Not sure why you didn't get the cops to come with you to get the bike back in the first place? Am I missing something here?

You'd find it hard to get the police to accompany you tbh. But Neil's mate should report it (again), partly as found, but partly cos that bloke's got two other people's bikes. If he's got more than one, how can he deduce it was Neil's mate that reported it?

  • Ive told him to check BL and gumtree....

Well good news on the bike front, It was found on gumtree and has now been reclaimed.

He owes you a beer for good advice, great job getting it back.

  • He has now reported it to the Police found with several other important details, that should help them. The reason why we didnt get the police to come around as well at the time because from other peoples experience with the stolen bikes and the Police it would have taken them about a month to arrive by that time someone would have bought it. And secondly the picture in the add wasnt the exact bike so we were not sure if it was his. And telling the police that we weren't sure would have just prolonged things further.

Whilst writting this post I got a text from my friend and as predicted the polices response to telling them about this was that they would get someone to call him in the next couple days! By this time all information would be useless.

  • Stolen: Trek 2000 (2006) blue and silver like this:- **http://tinyurl.com/yz6m5pq

  • With a bit more research I have found another website, which the little C**ts seem to be using. On the list of bikes found when their phone number was search is a Cannodale bad boy, but it can not be seen anymore. Conicedently also on this probikezone is a bad boy but under a different phone number.

  • Has anyone lost a Dolan?

Cheap price, the telephone number has also sold several other bikes.

  • And this can only be presumed to be the langster I was offered.

  • And a customised Plug as well, non standard back wheel and cranks by the look of it. http://www.gumtree.com/london/78/56210978.html
