Audax rides

  • Erm.. not I..

  • It might be a bit of a foff to find the frame of reference, so good luck. There are several components to it.

  • Just did the Corinium CC Windrush Winter Warm-up 100k audax today. Bit on the chilly side and my feet were numb most of the time. There were also strong headwinds in the 2nd stage. But a very good turn out with over a hundred on the ride. At least it didn't rain. A pub in Little Barrington called the Fox Inn was doing pasta meals for the riders. They must have raked it in charging £8.00 for a tiny bowl of pasta. But after 76k I was ready for it and it was pretty good.

Only 3 controls and the first one was at 47k so it was nice to do a non-stop long stint. I was on fixed of course but there were a few other fixers too. There was a tandem and one guy on a trike.

Got the train back to London then cycled another 20k from Paddington to Sydenham. Nice to start the season early.

  • Sounds great Arup. Except the pricey pasta.

  • Never happened to Tante Käthe. Only did perms.

  • What has the world come to?

  • Just a reminder of the previously suggested 'Group Perm' for those planning on riding LEL/ other Audax's this year.

    Saturday 9th Feb - 'Sussexy Beast' 160km Audax - http://www.aukweb.net/perms/detail/WW10/ as a 'perm'.

Start point would be a station within easy reach of London Bridge so we'd meet at London Bridge station between 7-9 (I'll check with the other when they wanted to start).

If anyone is interested in joing then please do - just send of your entry for the brevet card and pray for dry weather.

Let me know if you do fancy it - I tried to convince Ludwig yesterday and he's suggested it to a few others.

Also - I'd suggested the Around Weald Explorer for the 23rd Feb - we have now decided to ride the Dorset Coast Perm on the 23rd Feb - if anyone else if interested in that then let me know, so far myself and the rest of AC Hackney (all four of us) have booked a train so I can check the times for anyone else interested.

    Cheers - Joel

  • Second call for new page ... anyone fancy coming along to Dial Post this saturday? I'll be riding pretty gently, on a spinny fixed. I spoke to the organiser Mick on Saturday pm, he said I could apply late by post, there's just a couple of places left... just going to sort it now...

  • Also - I'd suggested the Around Weald Explorer for the 23rd Feb - we have not decided to ride the Dorset Coast Perm on the 23rd Feb - if anyone else if interested in that then let me know, so far myself and the rest of AC Hackney (all four of us) have booked a train so I can check the times for anyone else interested.

    Cheers - Joel

Not sure I understand, are you still doing around weald or not?

  • Vesalius - sorry, there was a crucial misplaced letter in there to throw the entire point of the sentence - it should have read - "we have now decided to ride the Dorset Coast Perm on the 23rd Feb"...

  • Ahh gotcha! thanks for the clarification

May go solo on the around weald if i'm feeling brave ;)

  • I have a few days leave from work which I am using to ride the Gospel Pass perm on the 18th Feb, and will probably use my brevet on the 14th March to do the AWE...

Do the Sussexy Beast this weekend!

  • Cool!

Can't do the beast though, got the burford bumble on sunday :)

  • Hmmm. Can't do the Beast or the Bumble as not around this weekend.

Dorset Coast is tempting, but I've signed up for the Forts and Ferries the following day. Anyone else interested in that - only 80k (Kent start, down to Dover and back, some hills) but a nice easy route from SE London, so I'm riding out and back to make it a 200? http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/13-536/

  • Would anyone like to share a room in the oxford peartree travelodge with me, for The Dean?

My previous partner most likely won't be riding due to work unfortunately :/

  • Given I was thinking of booking there and posting the same thing, sure. PM comin'

  • ^Nice one!

  • We rode the Sussexy Beast 160km Audax Perm yesterday - http://www.aukweb.net/perms/detail/WW10/

Relentless climbing and freezing cold weather made for a very long day! Excellent though!

Jsabine - I'd be keen on doing back to back days quite soon so will look at the Forts and Ferries. When would you set of? I might be more inclined to train out and ride back to stay in bed a bit longer...

  • ^Come to the Forts and Ferries ...

It's pretty much bob on the right distance door to door from my place to Chilham to make it up to a 200 - 10am start so I reckon on leaving 6:15, 6:30 or so from SE7, and taking a fairly easy pace over. Going for the very, very boring route of main roads all the way too, at least going there.

Sure I could provide bed and beer the night before if anyone wanted to start with me, and/or beer on the way back.

Back to back days need to be in my future as well, so currently working out whether I should force myself on Vesalius the day before (only if he's still planning the AWE, natch) or just go for a social ride.

(Your feedback on the Sussexy Beast seems to have been appreciated in another place, too.)

  • My god, I've just learnt more about Steve Abrahams (aka Teethgrinder)

    I am in absolute awe...

  • The programmer Teethgrinder? Creator of Open Flash Chart?

  • ermm... I don't think so...

  • More teethgrinder on YACF, presumably...?

Did you do the Burford Bumblebee thing in the end Vesalius? Also can I bring your zip ties to the JB tomorrow?

  • Exactly, TG from YACF.

And nooo the weather forecast was awful, with rain all day and sleet for the latter stages, so I DNSed it :(
You can read some comments from those who actually started/finished it here, sounded like a particularly hard one though.

I'm planning on doing the man of kent 200 tomorrow as I feel guilty for the DNS, I mayy be able to drop by the JB on the way home?

    Would appreciate them though!

  • Oh, some other forum. Cross-interests fail on my part!

I was idly hoping that Programmer Teethgrinder had come up with some awesome new coding project that somehow incorporated cycling.
