^ Can't blame you, I didn't even want to go outside on Sunday really, never mind do a 200. Yes I read those (complete with a comment from Mr teethgrinder himself). I'll put some of those zip ties in my bag.

The Man of Kent is good, I'd recommend it, I really enjoyed it last year. There was one bit which was pretty windy though, I was glad I wasn't riding on my own at the time. Corlis did a write up which is here:

I want that poster for my hall but its £160 :(

  • Contemplating part or all of the around the weald route on saturday if the weather forecast stays good.

Need to be back in london by about 6:30pm for a dinner date, so it'll be an early start.

Not planning to submit it for any perm or anything, just a chance to get out. Any interest let me know.

  • Done.

Had an early start with my first receipt as ~06:30, and last 16:00, and yes it was bloody windy and yes there were some crazy drivers!

My right knee is destroyed though, started hurting around quarter of the way in and got worse throughout. It was particularly painful when starting off again after a stop at control/light etc.
I've only had problems with my left knee previous, and there was no obvious cause, but it is screwed... (<medical terminology)

Bah, I really hope it sorts itself out soon, it hurts to walk letalone cycle so I'm not likely to come east beers pete, but again, I *may *do.

  • Vesalius - do you have many free days during the week? I had a few days annual leave to squander so am riding the Gospel Pass 200 this Monday - probably much to late to consider this now, but have the 14th and 15th March off which I will use to ride the Around Weald 200 and probably another perm the next day if you are interested - or anyone else for that matter...

The advice I'd give you about the knee is to book an appointment with Michael Crebbin the physio - he sorted my neck out which was also professionaly diagnosed as 'fucked' early last year...

  • Or even Scherrit, bike fitting is money worth spending on.

  • Thats a good point Ed - I need to get a proper bike fit myself!

  • Yeah Joel as I'm still a student, I'm fairly flexible, especially on wednesdays, and it would be great to join you for one when my knees feeling better :)

I have had a semi-bike fit from bespoke cycles, but that was on a previous bike. And I'm pretty sure I've set the new one up with my seat too far forward. May have to consult them about it for some advice/get the bike set up to the measurements again...

This article is very informative re: knee pain

  • ah excellent, I wish I was a student, my job is really getting in the way of cycling...

On Thursday 14th and Friday 15th of March I'm going to (or at least attempt to) ride the Around Weald Expedition (http://www.aukweb.net/perms/detail/WW09/) on both days - I had toyed with the idea of riding a 300km using two perms but I reckon back to back day will be better training than just doing one really long day (plus I'd probably lose my mind riding 300km on my own...)

Let me know if you are up for both or either days - the first day I'll aim for around a 10hrs finishing time, the next day I'll just be hoping to make it round within the time limit...

Seriously, get a proper bike fit, while clipless pedals are fantastic for keeping your feet in one position, they can also wreck havoc on your legs if your cleat is not aligned to work with it properly.

My dad have two knees operation before he got a bike fit, partly because he crank it on the big ring all the time and partly he didn't think much about adjusting the cleat accordingly (which is pretty hard to do on your own).

Most especially on a rando/audax, John (the bloke you met with the small wheel roadie) can't do more than 100km before his knees become unbearable to even walk.

  • Planning on the Kent Invicta Grimpeur as my first Audax of 2013 - 17th March. Probably one to take the gears for I think.

  • You have a geared bike?

  • I do! I don't ride it very often though

  • That putting it mildly!

  • In case anyone is interested but hasn't seen the info, CC Luton are running a 100km reliability ride this Sunday.

    Details here: http://ccluton.wordpress.com/club-reliability-ride-2/

£7 entry on the day. £5 adv.

I'm looking to get the train out: leave Euston 07:50 arrives Cheddington 08:30 then 6 miles to the village hall start / finish. Return trains are 29mins past the hour all afternoon. £14.50 off peak day return.

Trains from Luton are also possible. This is about 8 miles from the start / finish.

I am waiting for a couple of mates from work to decide if they want to ride it.

Hey upstart, sounds hilly... Thought I might do the 50 if I get my shit together. Does anyone know - mudguards compulsory? My audaxy bike is currently built for child towing duties, and my roadie has no clearances...

Doing Norfolk Mardle 100 fixed this sunday, any East Anglia riders here going?

  • Yep - 1900m! I can't see any info on mudguards being mandatory for this one and my road bike doesn't have them anyway.

Just had a look on the West Kent CTC site and their Invicta Grimpeur page says "details later"

  • I rode the Gospel Pass 200km yesterday - http://www.aukweb.net/perms/detail/SP21/ - It's an amazing route, the bit over the actual pass between Llantony and Hay-on-Wye would have the be described as 'rugged', I nearly felt compelled to pull over a write some poetry at times.

Easy to start and finish via train from London, I'd ride it again...

I did crash on some black ice though so now have a big crack in my helmet and can't move my neck, aside from that it was a brilliant day out.

Well done, sorry I didn't join you two. I hope you'll be ok for Saturday?

  • Yeah I should be okay, I can't imagine its much worse than just a bit bruised - it happened at the 20km mark and had no issue yesterday so reckon It'll all be fine again tomorrow.

I'd better have the next month off work though just to be safe...

Where did you get the train to, Cheltenham? What time did you get up?!

Are you doing the Dorset Coast in one day too?

Hope your neck gets well soon...

  • the Around Weald 200km on the 23rd Fed - its a way off now but if people are interested then I'm sure we'd be keen to have a bigger group of us!

    I'd be keen for that.

Excellent - 23rd Feb it is then!

So is this still in the planning?
(This multi-quote thing is a bitch to work out)

  • Well, I mean easy in a relative to Audax rides sense - the start is in Cheltenham, just round the corner from the station. I took the 06:45 train from Paddington and the 21:01 back - a long day, up at 5:30, home by midnight.

We are doing the Dorset coast this Saturday, managed to get a groupsave ticket for £25ish each, I can only assume we leave and return at an ungodly hour as well.

Living in London its a right pain to get to lots of calendered events in one day (for 100 - 300kms) or even to just get to the start (400 - 600kms) without having to stay overnight somewhere. Perms over 200km are limited as well.

If you are interested in the Dorset Coast this weekend let me know asap and I'll let you know when we are starting!

    you've got male.

  • Hope your neck loosens up soon Joel :/ and keep up the good audaxing!

My knee's better but still feels weird on the bike :(

  • Book yourself an appointment to see Scherrit.
