  • I was standing under a bridge for a moment there. Despite that I do think TT bars are wrong, also the forks don't look right at all. It looks like they're not long enough for the frame and it's changing the geometry especially with the low BB.

I'm sure there's reasoning behind it but to me the more I look at it the more I dislike it.

I agree with you that there is more than just aesthetics to porn. Which is why I was posting all those legendary DH bikes a few months back

I know everybody has their own opinions on aesthetics etc...but it just seems that too often peoples opinions on bikes are ruled by phrases like 'doesn't look right' without actually thinking that to some people, looks are secondary to function.
I also know that people will say 'this is bike porn, it's all about looks'...but for me I love to see bikes put together by people with enough miles and experience behind them to choose parts based purely on function and how well they work together as an overall setup...sometimes that means the final bike will end up looking like a complete mish mash, and some people can't get their heads around that because they're used to seeing bikes put together as a 'complete package' where parts have been chosen to match and colour coordinate.

Jay P's bike is to me a perfect example of a bike built for a specific job, without a thought to the final overall appearance.
For example, I fucking hate those tyres personally, but he has used them for his last 2 divide rides because they work for him, and I can fully appreciate that.

As for tri bars...I love them...set up in a way that works for the rider and the task in hand. They can make a huge difference to comfort and reducing arm and shoulder fatigue on long rides. On a divide bike they make perfect sense, which is why almost every rider uses them...they also offer a perfect place to attach mats and bags etc.
If you look closely you'll see they're mounted above the stem and behind the bars. This means you can still support your body and tuck in a bit out of head winds, but without having to stretch as much as you might on a TT bike.

I can fully see why others wouldn't class it as porn, but for me it definitely is...far more than a lot of what i see on here.

  • The whole snowbike thing is funny. I genuinly didnt have a clue untill i askd and was shown.
Im suprised by the shitstorm around the subject.

    What the heck is wrong with;

    a) Making some mad bike design / enjoying some mad bike design.
    b) Riding in the cold / wet / dark for any reason at all.. including "cos i felt like it" & "to get rizzla"
    c) Letting people do as they please.

  • ^^^ welcome to LFGSS.com 'THE' friendliest place on the internetz ;)

I don't disagree with what you're getting at, but it is a little like saying a magazine full of glossy photos of female Mensa members would be wank material... This is bike porn afterall.

No, actually it's nothing like that...but well done with your implication that intelligent women can't be attractive.

As you said, this is bike porn...not a 13 year olds bedroom. Not really any need to make another childish, boring reference to porn mags is there?...that comparison has been done to death.
As has been pointed out many times before, bike porn is different for each person, there isn't a right and wrong.

  • I don't understand this snow bike argument, if you live in a place where there is lots of snow, get a snow bike.

  • T
2.3" Conti Vertical Pro worked OK even out here in the sticks where the snow lay twice as deep

shite tyres. were all the rage years ago mainly because the other offerings were equally poor (apart from the high roller)
the march of technology means we don't have to use shite like that now.

  • Personally I find all the pictures of old road bikes and lovingly restored track bikes that are never allowed to see a drop of rain rather boring, but i'm not going to tell somebody their choice of bike porn is wrong or has no place here.
I feel like i've seen more than enough polished and re-panto'd old track frames with period correct parts, carefully leaned up on walls so as not to scratch the bar tape.

I much prefer seeing bikes that are being built from new materials, or with new technology, or bikes built for new types of riding, or even bikes that just look like every part has been chosen because it's the best part for it's specific task, and has been built to be ridden hard...regardless of how well it's colours match.

Bike porn is a big enough title to fit everybody's tastes in there, so let's not keep trying to limit things by telling people their choice is wrong.
If it was filled with nothing but immaculate old track and road bikes it would be as boring for some people as it would if it was filled with nothing but Fatbikes and dirty MTB's.

To quote Moodymann... "I don't like just one colour of that rainbow...I like em all baby, ya dig?"

  • BRP - keep your discussion hat on.

    Ta. :)

  • There is far more to porn than just looks in my opinion.

True, 100% agree with you. Your Brooklyn = yes
(not so keen on the colour, but that's just me.
And I actually tried it, through the person that bought it off you.
The Orbea = No. but i'm rarely impressed by alloy frames.
    (Unless it's Nicolai).

    fill yer boots

  • The Orbea is Carbon. :]

  • After all this talking it's gotta be about time for some good old paint porn courtesy of one of my favourite frame builders, Carl 'snarl' schlemowitz of Vicious Cycles.
Also one of my favourite head badges!

  • Can you list your own bike porn on here?

This was my project from two years ago, all based on my love of the true original when I was a kid in the 80's.
The frame is actually a Raleigh Special Products division frame made from Reynolds 853, and I picked it up for £25 without a headset as it was corroding in someone's shed. I did all the frame prep, and then a specialist painters painted the frame yellow and black, before sanding it down so that it could be passed back to me so I could sort all the decals out. After applying the decals it then went back to the painters for the clear coat, before I got it back to build it up as seen here.
It now gets ridden hard through the winter months when it's cold, wet and miserable, rather than my main road bike with it's gears, and whilst my TT bike spends it's time glued to my turbo.

  • Can you list your own bike porn on here?

Not really. There's a Current Projects thread for stuff like that.

Trust me - someone will cross post it over here again. :)

  • i'm hard for that saddle angle.

  • ^ as above. Sure you will get comments re saddle angle though

  • ^^ ah there you go!

  • Always get comments on saddle angle.........

Believe me when you've been trying for a kid as long as us, lost babies to miscarriage and other crummy things, and had a cancer scare chucked in for kicks and giggles, you'd ride with your saddle nose down rather than riding with a numb undercarriage.

I've done two century rides on that bike this year in complete comfort so something must be right for me.

I'll go fund the current projects thing though..........ta for that

You misconstrue my comments, but I expected that. The bikes you post are attractive, but not in the dirty lustful way that bikes in the porn thread are considered. Functional bikes are >>>>>>>>>

And I was in no way suggesting intelligent women are unattractive. It is something that features above many other things in my desired woman. However I'm not going to wanking over a 60 year old that can recite pi to the 6000th number.....

  • Hell no.

  • The bikes you post are attractive, but not in the dirty lustful way that bikes in the porn thread are considered. Functional bikes are >>>>>>>>>

Considered by who? Despite what some people think, there is nobody in charge of the porn thread, what you may see as purely functional, I may see as bike porn, therefore this is where it belongs. We are all free to post our own versions of bike porn, and unless all 26,446 other members agree that they have no interest in seeing what I post, I will continue to post it where I personally feel it belongs..

And I was in no way suggesting intelligent women are unattractive. It is something that features above many other things in my desired woman. However I'm not going to wanking over a 60 year old that can recite pi to the 6000th number.....

That was exactly what you implied actually. Using a 6O year old woman as an example now doesn't dilute the initial implication.

I couldn't care less what your masturbatory preferences are to be honest, and there is no need to keep referring to it on here...this is 'bike porn' remember.

    Your thread is clearly >>>>>>>>>>

  • The Orbea is Carbon. :]

Lol, still doesn't do it for me.
