BMW Makes some of the best, and most innovative frames out there - to call them crap show a complete lack of understanding of anything to do with frame design or manufacture
My objection to the road frame is that the only reason to buy it over another similar spec frame is that its a BMW - From what i understand that frame is a one off only.
Its not porn, but no doubt a decent frame.

Lightweight type logo isn't amateur at all.
We are talking about it? Do you ever confuse it with another wheel? No. It's clearly acheived its intended purpose very well.
Your an amateur regal for thinking it's amateur
bollocks - just because you recognise it doesn't mean it's doing its job. If that were the only rule of branding, all marks and logotypes would be like roadsigns.
Oh and yes, it's shit. Completely off-brand and just a very very odd choice - that typeface does not say 'light, race-bred pieces of technology'

Understood. Why are they not used anymore?
They still appear on special Stayer bikes, but normal track bikes now have a steeper seat angle, so the saddle is not so cantilevered off the seat post, and modern micro adjust seat rail clamps resist the force better than old plain post clamps.

The Lightweight logotype is amateurish, and quite ugly, but I do find it funny when people positively demand a slick corporate logo on products. "It's just not calculated enough for me. How am I supposed to know that I fit into their target demographic? Other people might mistake me for a consumer who buys poorly marketed goods when in reality I have a highly developed taste in corporate branding."The lightweight logo is not a fail - its the perfect logo for a company that is all about light weight minimalist components.
Some big fuck off logo like most companies go for would be a fail.
These are truths.

Actually, I've just noticed their corporate logo (as on their website) has been redrawn/respaced, not too badly at all in fact. The logo on the products is still spaced like a font though (maybe so they can make it match the curve of the rim more easily).

anyone wanting to ride on the road (a lot) wouldn't look twice at that bmw, just because they build 'interesting' dh and street bikes does not guarantee that it's an awesome riding road bike.

Bitching about logos, despite being balanced out by good instructions on achieving awesomeness and a photo of a rooster, still makes this page a massive fail.
Come on people. Your shit. Get it together.
Nuknow - where are your late night discoveries when we need them? Like some sort of Tarck Batman, only you can save us from the tyranny of graphic designers arguing over fonts.

I would. :]
Lets not forget that regardless of what people think about BMW and the recent hype which surrounds them, Joe learnt to build bikes a long time ago with Yellow Jersey cycles here in London, building road bikes etc...he's not lacking in experience.
I'm not trying to claim for one minute that BMW are master road bike craftsmen, but in my opinion they simply make bikes that ride very well, and last a long time.
In the case of BMW hype followed long after their reputation was earned.I agree that the only people that would splash cash on that frame though would likely be diehard fans of BMW or people who want to own a 'name'. But then it was just a one off. :]
Speaking of BMW history...here's a pic of their first bike from the thick end of 2Oyrs ago...thumbshifters , glow in the dark paint and all. :]
