Gripshift = Fail Bike.
That's like failing a bike for saddle choice. Some people love twisters.
On the other hand, cable actuated disc brakes do make it fail to be porn -

...cable actuated disc brakes do make it fail to be porn
and what makes you say that?.. just wondering
IMO that bike don't really belong here at all, apart from fork and bar/stem combo thingie -
• #21980
and what makes you say that?
Cable discs are a compromise for people who either can't afford real brakes or can't get hydraulic levers, i.e. for drop bars. They need too much regular adjustment and maintenance. Should have had a nice high-end hydraulic brake.

Cable discs...need too much regular adjustment...
out of own experience - not really.
but generally agreeing on the rest of what you said - cable discs go on MTBs mostly, MTBs not = porn -
• #21982
Don't agree.
Upward pointing stems are not porn, maybe the right stem on a BT or so.
On the majority of bikes it doesn't look right.
This amount of spacers is just acceptable. But if we're just talking about porn (no this bike is certainly no porn IMO), there should be less spacers. Def. no rising stem.
Perhaps a high concave upper part of the headset would be the right solution. Also to make a smoother transition from headtube to spacers stack.
Oh, and the stem is too short to make it porn.i am currently rockin 4cm of spacers. is this acceptable? haha. i am playing about with bar height after getting a new frame. the spacers are nice hope ones.

The thread is right, its the bikes that are wrong.

New Turbo is exactly the same shape as the old one
Its really a total different saddle. The shape maybe "almost" exactly the same (its not though),but they feel different, have different writing, different leather, foam. pretty much everything. The new ones are reallllllly horrid. Really horrid. Which is weird, cos the Regal, Rolls and the other one whose name has temporarily slipped my mind are all nice (not as nice as the old ones, but still nice.) The new turbos are hideous, and horrid, and shit.

... drops are impossible to ride without brakes...
No it's not ....
But what was the original argument here? I can't see how what your hands are gripping onto affects skidding / pedal breaking?
The distance between your hands? Position of shoulders or upperbody? Good grip? -
• #21997
But what....affects skidding / pedal breaking?
The main thing which effects pedal breaking is not braking enough before you lean over into a corner
-
• #21998
^ true!
You mean like these?
want!!!

The distance between your hands? Position of shoulders or upperbody? Good grip? When I says drop, I don't necessary mean super narrow track drop with only 1mm worth of straightness on the top.
different handlebar doesn't really make much difference when resisting the cranks, if the rider find it's comfortable to ride on super narrow drop, who am I to says difference?

You may not care what anyone says but it is still not true I'm afraid.
I ride with drops and find it just as easy as with risers. As long as your bike fits you and you can actually ride in the drops (which I do 80%+ of the time) then stopping is easy.
If you use drops incorrectly and just hold the flat part next to the stem then I would agree they would be useless, but you don't do that. Do you? :-)
I agree with you about Oury's and I find them comfortable too but they look out of place on a classic thin tubed steel track frame (as do risers)
