It's those Leader jobbies, they imported the Reynolds tubing from the UK, build it in Taiwan, and sell it to the US just to keep the price down.

£490 is a bit much, even if the frame is 853, you wouldn't really notice a difference unless you're racing in the velodomes and really care about the different feedback, weight, etc.

You wouldn't notice wherever you ride. There is a lot of misleading talk on different materials IMO.

that's precisely what I mean, 853 doesn't necessary mean it's better, just different from says, 631.

853 is better, cos it's lighter (u can draw the tubes thinner cos its stronger).
However, it's easier to ding and dent since it drawn out thinner which is a major thing to think about as a bike to use properly around town and such.
These are just thinks i've picked up from google along the way.

Lighter is not always better: 853 is not indestructible, and when it goes it tends to really shear off. Softer steels typically tend to bend rather than snap when they yield...
...or something

Didn't say 853 wasn't better than 631, it is as it makes a slightly lighter frame. However, would anyone be able to notice in a blind test ride? (although a blind test ride sounds a bit dangerous..)

I think these lugs are called 'Capella' They were used by Carlton, and Rotrax. Mike Compton. who was the head builder for Rotrax cut and modified a set for me. Just as a matter of interest, Mike built the last of the Thanet Silverlights.

It's obvious isn't it? 531 is, as we all know, awesome. But 631 must be better as it has a higher number. Therefore 653 is better again, 753 is beyond awesome and then we've got 853 which is just SO FUCKING UNBELIEVEABLE and finally 953 which is THE FINEST STEEL TUBING IN THE KNOWN UNIVERSE.

Thats kinda what i tried to say. You are right when it fails it happens more abruptly. Also like i said they tend to dent easier and are more fragile and sensitive to dents when they do occur due less material being present. All in all 853 and 953 is an enthuisast/racing tubeset.

people claim that 853 rides nicely.
What is said is that the joints in 853 are stiffer due to the air hardening qualities of 853 and perhaps that affects the ride ?i can't say anything since i've not ridden an 853, but if it goes by previous claims with other tubesets, the ride quality is more to do with who made it and how they made it.

My Peugeot frame is 753 - It is a very lovely ride. I am yet to to try this awesome and cheaper 531 but think I have been spoilt.
Naturally the only way I can go from here is up, 853 or 953. Fuck, more expense.
