• Thinking of this as your next build? Saw you had quite a clearout last time any luck with the replacement?

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/REYNOLDS-531-TRACK-FRAME-AND-FORKS-JOE-WAUGH-FIXIE-/110621913346?pt=UK_sportsleisure_cycling_bikeparts_SR&hash=item19c1947102#ht_642wt_1141

    I very much like this..

  • Excuse me, Mr two-faced noob, before you get all smart mouthed via PM, take a look around the site to discover a: the accepted tone of the place and b: my reputation.

Man I wanna know what that saus said to get mdcc fully riled!!!

  • Man I wanna know what that saus said to get mdcc fully riled!!!

It's not what he said, it's the differential between his public post and his private message. If he'd said in public what he said in private, I probably wouldn't even have responded, since everybody here is either smart enough to draw their own conclusions or I don't care.

  • That's pretty nice

  • Excuse me, Mr two-faced noob, before you get all smart mouthed via PM, take a look around the site to discover a: the accepted tone of the place and b: my reputation.

garrett_h - now that mdcc_tester's ordered you to look around the site you'll no doubt be at it for ages once you start and very quickly you'll get distracted trying to work out what the accepted tone actually is. So i thought i'd at least summarise part b) of his request for you to make it all a bit quicker.

mdcc_tester's reputation on this site is that of an obsessive bike swot who regurgitates unnecessarily involved statistical guff whenever he gets the chance in order to parade just how much he knows about bikes. He's not on here to enter a mutually beneficial dialogue with other people's views; he posts simply to lay down his own as the last word and then maintain them as sacrosanct. He often tries to force the mildest conflict of opinions into petty one-upmanship contests. He particularly hates it when people give as good back, often returning to threads in order to try and provoke a long-disinterested person back into arguing because he feels he hasn't appeared as victorious as he feels he should. One of the most ungracious people on this forum, he is a know-it-all bore with no real idea of how to communicate with people he feels he must be superior to, which is almost everyone, just because he's older, more full of himself and has spent more time swotting up about bikes than them. Despite his claims to age and wisdom he sees nothing wrong in going on to facebook, for example, having a snoop and a sniff around, and digging out a picture of a teenage boy half-naked on a boating holiday, for example, if the self-same boy is on a thread to discuss bikes here and mdcc_tester has decided to pick on him and teach him who his betters are.

of course he's not the only person who displays these traits, but there aren't many who stoop so low or so boorishly in their self-aggrandisement on lfgss. if he had any sense of humour about himself or the faintest glimmer of concern for the people he communicates with he might more convincingly be able to guess at what the accepted tone of the place is, but as it is he is self-serving, mean-spirited and bombastic, and he is therefore an outsider, not a representative, of this forum, and a sad example of what happens when bike knowledge meets with arrogance and self-regard.

in other words then he's the kind of pompous oaf who, rather than being happy to encourage the enthusiasm of someone who has posted up in a good spirit but who - horror of horrors - hasn't come across the Bottecchia name before, prefers to make a cheap snipe at them to undermine their affability and then goes into a 'now listen to me sonny jim' mode in public when they take umbrage in private.

hope that saved you a bit of time looking around this place anyway garrett_h - god knows I wouldn't want to have to wade through mdcc_tester's posts all at once.

  • and this is exactly why i don't bother much with the forum any more. too many people being too ready to knock someone rather than just enjoy sharing their knowledge about bikes. it's amazing how few people make the majority of the noise on here and it's sad that the people among those few who decide to act the billy big balls all the time come to dominate the tone of much of the day to day posting.

mdcc_tester, if you care as little as you always profess, maybe you'll miss the point of what I was trying to say, along with a lot of the irony with which I said it. but it would good if you realised that anyone who starts mentioning the reputation they believe they have on here is probably not a particularly positive energy for the forum.

  • ^ + 1

mdcc: I think it is quite rude to address a forumer by the title of n00b, and try to present a fallacious sense of superiority just because you have been on a forum far longer than someone else. Have mutual respect for forumers both young and old ;)

  • +1 to pyjamas.

Anyone who has to mention their own reputation, regardless of what it actually is, and my-oh-my some self-awareness might be in order, isn't representative of this forum.

  • Herety 56cm(ish) track frame. Quite nice details.

  • he sees nothing wrong in going on to facebook, for example

Facebook? The very thought. I have never seen, and will never see, a Facebook page. You're entitled to your opinion, but suggesting that I would have anything to do with Facebook is beyond the pale.

  • Battle of the Stuffed Shirts? Gold...

  • Oh, the fucking irony...

  • He's been a member for less than a year. N00B!!!11one!eleven!!

  •
Thinking of this as your next build? Saw you had quite a clearout last time any luck with the replacement?
Hey there, I did cast a thought about buying it but I've built up my Charge beater and have a Dave Yates track frame that I'm hoping to send to the man himself for a full respray and refurb.. Have to post a few pics in 'current projects.' Not to say that I've stopped looking mind ;)! A Japanese NJS frame would be nice or maybe a lo-pro for a change... Mmmmm... How are your bikes going?

  • mdcc_tester.. maybe you'll miss the point of what I was trying to say, along with a lot of the irony with which I said it..

..Stuffed Shirts? Gold..Oh, the fucking irony...

oh must you try and make a billy big balls comment about everything joe? if so do get a handle on what's already been covered and have a think about whether you're undermining the point being made in the name of a quick snipe. i was addressing mdcc_tester and trying to defend someone who's been quietly on here for six months who got shit for no reason, it wasn't a bid for a popcorn episode. if we're talking stuffed shirts you're every bit as precious as anyone else on here, there are plenty of posts among your 20-odd thousand to show it. oh, the irony, eh.

cue teenslain quoting this and then saying something along the lines of "fuck off, phil" and then being catty on other threads for a few months so he can get a few easy laughs. exactly the kind of bollocks on here i was on about.

nothing more to say. this isn't what bikes are about for me.

  • Do stop taking yourself so seriously, Phil... It's fun to watch and all that but probably not the look you're going for...

  • i haven't got a problem with being regarded as someone who takes themselves seriously. anyway.. there you go. i lasted nearly six months without posting something about all the shit flying around, i've said it now and i know it won't make any difference in a week's time.
