i plan to do that combo on my new build, but i am a little unsure stillgo for Velocity Fusion (come in different colour too), they're cheaper than Deep V, lighter and just as strong, it's nearly as light as an Open Pro too, which is a bonus.
(Deep V is 520g, Fusion is 475g, Open Pro is 435g).

oh yeah sounds good. thanks for the heads up Ed!

but if you wanna have the front radial lace why not get an open pro for the back and a deep section eg. H plus for the front
That'll not be great. Over-stiff on the front wheel, plus shitty in to steer.
The rear wheel is the one to build strong. That's why you build 3 cross rear, and radial front without problems.
If your worried about the strength of the front but must have it radial, then perhaps go for 36h.

i'd vote for polished deep-v's.
These are no longer in production, something to do with man-hours polishing and costs

seriously? wow. guess you'll have to spring for shamals, josh ;)

I got some Rigida Chrinas for a more classic look, only £17.99 at Parker. Very similar to Open Pro, but tad heavier.
They seem solid and very easy to build up.

Is there a Clincher equivalent to these? Araya Golds. In terms of looks.

did they ever make polished deep Vs? or do you mean their 'bright silver'?

are these shiny or dull silver? :)

whizz, where from? did they come that polished or have you shined them up yourself?
ebay. They came polished, if 14 Bike Co have them they should be cheaper than ebay.

Josh. Buy Low Flange Phils (Or miles and miles better, Royces) and an unusual and little heard-of rim called the Mavic Open Pro.
You know it makes sense.

Not shiny at all. They're cheap tho yeah...
Would be a bitch to polish up too, as they are eyeletted.

radical suggestion!
Josh,
I think these are your best option, look good and work well. Most of the others appear to be a compromise of aesthetics over performance.

Nope, definitely polished. Here's a picture. Prowheelbuilder still claims to have them in stock???

i saw those and thought they were done by hand? trouble is, how do stop them from going dull?

i'd looked at this royce/open pro combo, i promise! very nice.

that's a terrible arguement. you know... alright... i love josh, but he's hardly a worldclass athlete. i'm sure none of us would even notice the rolling resistance that the extra few grams from deep v's add on. who cares if we get to work 10 seconds later? or have to push 1.568% harder to overcome aerodynamics?
personally, this is my order of importance when shopping for parts:
- good looks
- cost
- performance
these are all good rims. go for what takes your fancy.
- good looks

Mr Sheen? Brasso? No idea really, same way you stop anything shiny from going dull.

Teddy, I'll have you know that I'm actually in training for olympic fixie freestyle fame!
Velocity Vs are actually lighter than my current CXP22s! Whilst I wouldn't want to build a set of tractor wheels, I'm not convinced that there's any real compromise here.

i was thinking anodising but I take your point!

Im a big fan of open pros but also think that they do not have the same resistance to going out of true that a deeper section rim has. Alot of people are going for velocity deep v alternatives based on the fact that everyone rides them... but i think that just illustrates how good they are for london roads... yes they are heavy but track bikes arent about weight weenie antics. I have been through 3 open pro rims due to potholes and shunts in london on my roadbike, when i switched to a deeper section fulcrum wheelset i have never had to true them. i think on your bike polished or plain silver Vs would look very nice. the only reason i would choose another rim would be if you didnt want a brake surface as a rounded sidewall would look better...

True, my cxp14s are lush (shudder) to ride. The shiny velocitys look as lovely as can be in that photo up there^.

With a dremmel it can't really take that long to polish your own can it? No difficult bits, flat surfaces, etc...
Has anyone done this?
with that combination, it look like half the wheel are from a different bike! in order to make it work, you'd need a deep v rear (at least as deep as a velocity) and a H+Son front.
