  • Dammit with deep carbon? I wouldn't have guessed it

  • ^ A Welsh Man is building a fancy carbon rim onto a horrible draggy dynamo hub.

  • What is happening?

I love the DA 7700 stuff, but I think to use it would have ended up with a contradiction- unless I flogged the Rotor cranks and went fully DA.

Therefore I've decided to go "full retard", and we're going to go for a totally modern bike- oversized, profiled steel rather than traditional narrow tubes, a carbon fork rather than steel etc etc.

  • Hmmmm.

  • Does that mean intergrated heat tube and no need for ugleh stem dammit?

  • Looks awesome.

Dynamo lights- to be permanently attached to the bike.

    What do people use/recommend?

  • Does that mean intergrated heat tube and no need for ugleh stem dammit?

Yeah, probably going to use an Arx Pro now.

  • Can't beat an ARX Pro.

Just because it's modern doesn't necessarily mean deep rims though right? Why so deep?

  • I had the front with the dynamo already.

  • Hah, ok. I was expecting some in depth technical explanation or something.

  • Nah, I just like the idea of having a dynamo for this bike, and deep carbon is never a mistake.

The front wheel is actually the wheel from the not-yet-built trailer, and can therefore be swapped between bikes depending on what I'm doing.

    Power all the things!

  • What brakes? Clincher or tub?

  • It's a clincher, but the largest hill it will face will be in England, so I'm relatively sanguine about it.

It's going to be 52x18 so I won't be able to go up a hill large enough to melt the rims on the descent.

  • planning on grinding your way around? isn't this going to be the commuter?

  • ^ This.

  • Or is it going to be 650b to give a more spinny ratio?

    #ubinscobled

  • Careful there James (I'm building a 650b).

  • Careful there James (I'm a scoblephile).

    ftfy

  • I was posting 650b touring bikes on the porn thread years ago. When Ed was only interested in "true track geometry". Just saying like.

  • Anyway Neil any progress on this one?

  • I was into 650b touring bikes long before they were scobool.
    I see.

  • Anyway Neil any progress on this one?

    Planning stage at the moment.

Debating using a belt drive but I don't know much about them, so some learning to do.

Ideally I would like power on this bike as historically I've done the bulk of my midweek miles on whatever my fixed gear was at the time.

However that would mean finding a White industries compatible belt drive sprocket. And I am not sure that such a think exists.

    This light looks good.

  • MOAR pics of the Spec AWOL. They've got a really neat lighting/charging setup on there. And belt drive.

Although we are no longer able to mention AWOL without being sued.

  • I really like that Specialized, anyone know what the lowest gear is? I'd want the bottom gear to be equivalent to 22x34 or similar.
