  • Desert Boots - A decent pair for less than £70. Are Clarks the best to go for at my budget?

Clark's are always the desert boots to go for, regardless of budget. Get their suede cleaning spray and a rubber/wire brush and they will always be immaculate too.

  • I'd totally wear those in black...

Do you have £575 lying around for some cordovan?

  • Noob question about the above: What happens when you come to polish them? Do you polish over the welt, or do you painstakingly mask it?

  • No, no I don't... I would deffo polish over that...

  • Was thinking more along the lines of with a 2045 last and maybe no cap toe.

  • swims galooches?

Stuarts in Shepherd's Bush carry those.

  • Stuarts also have a reduction on paraboots

  • Thank fuck the boots aren't on sale

  • spats dressed your ankle, no?

  • Anybody got any experience on the Tricker 4444 width 5 last sizing. Ideally I need to know how it compares to the Loake Pennine width G. I'm a 7 in the Loakes (size 8 generally). Not sure if I should go up half a size, as the the internet says that Tricker 5s are a generous F.

Those logger boots are saying "buy me!" in a gruff woodsman's voice.

  • Dunno how they compare, but for it's worth I'm wearing a pair of Tricker's Kendal width 6 at the moment, and they're quite wide. They're a UK8.5, and feels just a touch wider, not bigger, than a Grenson UK8.

  • The internet says the 4497 last although generous, is closer fitting over the in-step, compare to the 4444.

I suppose I could pop down to the shop and try them on, but I feel really bad trying things on, then buying them half price online.

A bit like taking grey market components to a bike shop for fitting...

  • Go to Selfridges if they stock them there, would be a bit less of a guilt trip than going down to Jermyn Street.

  • Fnar...

    so nice

  • swims galooches?

Last year someone asked the same question and I recommended galoshes, for which I was roundly derided as a twit and a philistine.

Eddie looks to be wearing more of a gaiter, to me.

  • Ordered these in the end.

No. Clearly spats as in still common to the full regalia of pipe bands and a number of armies.

  • Jaygee, they are lovely.

  • agree

  • Yup well tasty, neaten up the lacing though :)

  • Finally got the Loake Bedales, was waiting to but them locally but the shop didn't get new ones in stock for months, so bought them online. Arrived the other day.

  • I've tried on some of those Trickers loggers and they fitted true to size in the standard width. Stunning boots which feel less heavy than the brogues and visually appear more narrow in the toe.

  • Loggers arrived today. Got 7.5 in the end. They are little more roomy than my Loake Wortons (7G) and just a tad longer than my Grenson Hadleys (7G). All within tolerance and comfortable. I know why people spend money on shoes.
