Have you already hit your old phone with a hammer or something?
No, not yet (it's going to my mum so could be a similar fate). I was trying to be clever and upload to some cloud storage. Was far quicker to just plug in a usb cable.
Also, managed to import my old SMS. I did like I'd read, which was back up using SMS backup & restore app, then copied the txt file over to the N5 and used the same app to restore them. I had to make that app the default SMS app and then hangouts the default SMS app (I was prompted to do it so didn't have to dick about too much).
Pretty straight forward.

So this claim about 56% more light let in by the sensor is accurate? also, does the protruding lens/case cause it to sit awkwardly on a flat surface like has been suggested?
I reckon it just has a bigger lens, which is not to be sniffed at

Yeah, that's my only bug so far.
I emailed them. I don't have time for their bug tracking process (if they have one). Meantime I'm moving to Firefox.

VPN routes requests to your own network. Login page is local to the AP, not routable from your network.
AP refuses to route traffic for clients who haven't got a login token, hence you have no VPN connection anyway.
Maybe I'm using the wrong phrase, by VPN, I mean a VPN tunnel. could be SSH, but you'd still have the situation described, so would need an exemption for the tunnel for public-wifi-requiring-login.
But it's a public access point, no? I'm not thinking in terms of point-to-point VPN, I'm thinking of my use case with OpenVPN, with the exit point somewhere else in the world, exiting (no longer encrypted) and hitting a public web page - the access page. So the whole route is not encrypted but no one in the room will be stealing your shit locally.

All the previous Nexus cameras have been too. But if it's better than those then you're still winning.
They also reckon a software fix is coming?

I like it... I've (not 100% successfully) migrated everything over from my N4 using MyBackup Pro... Still don't have old SMSs or call logs on here tho'... Annoying...
What's everybody else doing?
It is just a faster N4 tho', nothing much else to report...

Mine too fuck sticks. Why do they firms use Parcel Farce? DPD are loads better. Text you, real time delivery map so you can watch the driver get closer, then updates with a delivery time window plus they accept alternate delivery instructions on the fly.....

You keep that shit?
I love the fact there's no history of texts and calls on a new phone. It feels better than an N4, looks better than an N4, takes better pics than an N4, has a bigger screen and does everything faster than an N4. May as well say it's just a faster G1.

Download SMS Backup & Restore, it's great for copying texts between phones. Even better if you set it to upload/download them to/from Google Drive, makes it easier plus your texts are backed up in the cloud.
