  • Somebody crossed the streams..

  • ^^ Had it to work for week 1 as it were, so changing to week 0 broke it kinda, should be better now

  • Right. I'm in this stupid spreadsheet. I've got my game face on. Grr. Oh, I got my own height wrong. That's a good start.

  • I'm eating jelly babies

  • Egg, bacon, chicken schnitzel ciabatta and apple pie. But don't worry fatties, I'm drinking diet coke..

  • Is it true that you cannot get into the Dead Sea Hippy?

  • ^^ I am grassing you up to your dentist, smug-features

  • Right, I'm a big fan of this sharing thing so:
What I shove in my face each day:
    Porridge/ Protein shake
    2 x fruit.
Bowl of yoghurt (Rhubarb and Vanilla Asda Fat Free is winning)
Big Ass salad- which is massive and includes tuna and bulgur and a variety of other stuff
    'Nother protein Shake.
Random dinner as cooked by housemates/ me (last night I cooked aubergine chickpea coconut curry with jeweled rice).
I've engineered it to be somewhere under 2000 calories a day, give or take.
No alcohol till exams- so that's easy.

  • What I do to my Body each week- sort of nicked from Hal Higdon/ Men's Running/ other places I forget:
Monday: 10k running @ pace AM, Circuit session PM
    Tuesday: HoP cycling AM.
Wednesday: 10k intervals AM (1 fast 1 chilled), Circuit Session PM
Thursday: HoP cycling AM, Special Circuit PM (skipping, sprints and leg strengthening for running)
    Friday: Rest Day
Weekend: 2 of Cardio from: Long run, Long ride, Swim. 1 Circuit session.

  • Should work on your phone.

    Lies, it does not.

  • Download the google docs app rather than through the browser, should work fine. Or maybe you're using the office wifi which sometimes is able to impose the same firewalls (my office wifi blocks facebook to an extent).

  • FYI I am using google drive to try to open it and not using office wifi...

  • Current routine:
Go to the climbing wall every day unless I'm totally shagged out (eg had 3 days on, one off, 5 on, taking today off). Trying to get back into running there too but a leg injury isn't over the moon about this.
    Wrestle on Wednesdays.
    That's it.

    Diet:
A whole load of shit I shouldn't be eating.

  • FYI I am using google drive to try to open it and not using office wifi...

Is this through clicking the link to the sheet?

  • Routine:
Sit on arse all day long

    Diet:
    Pies! Pies! Pies!

  • ^^ Yeah. Weird. I'll save the joys of putting my details in there until I get home.

  • Current routine;
15mile each way commute 5 days a week.
Mondays - Strength and conditioning training - calisthenics and kettle bells
    Wednesdays - Circuits
    Thursdays - Spin class
Saturdays - Strength and conditioning training - calisthenics and kettle bells
    Sundays - Circuits

    Diet;
Bacon and black coffee for breakfast
    Then bad things for lunch
    Healthy tea.

    Not enough water.
    Too much booze.

    Not enough will power
    Too much guilt.

  • I wish I had a commute. Today it took me 33 seconds to walk to work on the 7th floor.

(I say walk- I was a little late so kinda fast paced)

  • Is it true that you cannot get into the Dead Sea Hippy?

Do you know where it got its name?

Yep, I killed it and ate it.

  • Has anyone tried the 5:2 fasting thing?

  • Sounds fad like to me, what happens when you want to go back to eating normally again?

  • Has anyone tried the 5:2 fasting thing?

My manager is doing it, she reckons she feels less hungry overall on the "5" days. I know, because I am a greedy git, that I would stuff my face on the days when you can eat properly and negate the whole point of it.

  • Yes Kattie- I have- I think it works quite well, but as Hingis says there is the perennial issue with all diets of returning to normal eating.
Also I found it slightly gave me unhealthy obsessive feelings towards eating.
I think- and this is completely without evidence other than my own- that it is one of the more effective diets of the current breed of fads.

Also @ Hingis- you've given up carbs- which- yes it does work, but it does not last...

I can't find the evidence that Cochrane/NICE/a higher health body (I can't remember- it was from 1st year) came up with, but they assessed a lot of the diets around (not the 5:2) and found that simple calorie restriction (via the helping hand of WeightWatchers/ Jenny Craig) were the most effective after long-term follow up.

  • Does the 5:2 intermittent fasting diet work?

Despite its increasing popularity, there is a great deal of uncertainty about IF with significant gaps in the evidence.

  • That line could sum up the whole field.
It is an area crying out for some good research.
Sadly there are almost too many confounders for any real sense to be made of the results when they occur.
