Looking to drive to paris with as many bikes as practicably possible. Car can either be a hatchback or a saloon depending on how nice my dad is feeling.
Place bikes side by side. Apply duct tape to convert them into a single unpowered road vehicle. Attach to rear bumper of car with triangular wooden frame, string and more duct tape.
What could possibly go wrong ?

do it quite often for polo, 2 in the boot with both wheels, handlebars and seat off, 3 on rear rack.

I have an Olmo frame which has been fully chromed before painting. The paint has been stripped, and I want to powdercoat it. is it possible to mask off certain areas which I'd like to remain chromed, like the chainstay?
if so what should I use? I'm guessing masking tape would burn off?

^^^I have that exact rack, I think. It seems solid.
But if you use it as low as in that picture, strictly you will need a light board for your reg plate and lights as the bikes obscure them, which is both dangerous and illegal.
I usually mount it way higher to avoid that but then I risk the whole thing shattering the rear window as it carries much more of the weight. -

Is it possible/ advisable to fit a square taper BB on a modern carbon frame?
Depends how modern. If it has a threaded BB shell, you can just drop one straight in. If it's properly modern and has one of the pressed in BBs (BB30, BBRight etc), you'd need some kind of adaptor. Either way, it's hard to see why you'd want to.

cyclist varicose veins

Another question in this vein (sorry, tried not to make the pun but it was in vein)...
Heat rash. My jersey did little to stop it yesterday. Hot and humid. I now have mild heat rash on a good portion of my chest and a fetching perfectly straight diagonal line across my back from my bag.
How can I get rid of this ASAP? Just let it go away? Anyone have any secret remedies? It's not itchy, just unsightly and I have a date on Friday (and all the vague hopes/dreams that come with that)...

i think recent damage to your face may be of more concern!
(hoping you are healing fast)
wear loose fitting clothing, and natural fibres rather than artificial ones (i do not react well to synthetic clothing)
-
• #31615
I got the date while wearing bib shorts/jersey and after the crash so I'm assuming she doesn't mind!
But yeah, loose natural garments are about the opposite of a jersey. I find the jersey very comfy and I feel dry and cool but evidently it's not a wonder garment. Maybe I'll try to find a coconut fibre shirt as I hear only good things. Merino is rather warm.
-
• #31616
a merino baselayer to protect you from the man made jersey might be an idea

• #31617
Waaaay too warm I think! We're talking 30+ Celcius and 70% humidity here. Horrendous.

The Grey Hound... just up from Oval tube heading towards Stockwell
great irish pub and good guinessThe Greyhound is no more. It is now the Brown Derby.
I couldn't find this in a search:
If I cycle to London Bridge station this afternoon, will I be able to find a space to lock it?
I don't want to get there only to find it's full to capacity...
My other option is leaving it a Bermondsey station but I don't know how secure that will be (safety in numbers me thinks).
The cycle park next to On Your Bike costs doesn't it?
There are racks on one of the platforms still - but far fewer than there used to be. There are usually some traffic barriers/ sheffield stands to be found at the Borough High St / Duke St Hill pavement across from Evans. -

That's where I went, the Brown Derby. Seemed OK. But was deserted in the afternoon.

I'm going to get some new shoes soon, as my current "My First SPD Shoes" £35 jobs are on their way out (fucked strap) and my birthday's coming up.
Is it just a case of "If you can afford it, don't fuck about, get Dominators" or are there other long lasting options?
I commute all year, 20+ miles a day and longer rides at the weekend/holidays but don't do anything competitive so something that I can go to the pub in would be better, so it's probably going to be MTB shoes rather than road.

I've heard good reviews of the Chrome spd shoes. Not sure on the price of them though.
-
• #31624
They're much more on the pub side than the 20-mile commute side though aren't they?
Look in the Sidi thread, there are a few more that get discussed in there. I think in terms of quality and durability Sidis are very well regarded, but I'm pretty happy with the Mavic shoes I got for half the price.
-
• #31625
I like my Sidis a lot - they get used and abused: commuting, clomping through supermarkets, mountain biking, touring. They've done a good couple of years and the only damage is that the heel is starting to wear where I don't always undo them properly to take them off. But they are thin, and my feet aren't, so if my feet swell after a long ride then they can pinch.
Basically, try shoes on in a shop, don't just buy online based on reputation. Find a pair that are comfortable and feel high-quality enough to last.
Someone has pointed out that there's parking upstairs at London Bridge station. Will try that.
