  • I'm going to the Lake District next weekend and I know the ride my mate has planned for us is going to make me suffer (I think he wants to ride Kirkstone Pass). The question is do I try to get lots of training done in this last week or should I start taking it easier and taper before the ride?

  • You can't do anything now which will be more effective come next weekend than being well rested.

  • My other half is nagging me to go on a "hot holiday".

I actually thought that was a made-up term, my girlfriend also said the same thing.

"we can go on holiday after I got back from Morocco by the end of September"

"but I want a hot holiday".

Ha! I've been hearing "hot holiday" for the best part of a decade. This is just an attempt to stop the noise.

The answer is being thankful you're not going through Wynose/Hardknott Pass.

Mind you, Kirkstone Pass sound like a dream.

  • Cheapest place to get a Hope Pro II disc (rear) on Mavic TN 719?

    Heh, pay the danegeld...

  • Oh dear. Apparently that only works for a couple of years.

  • Blackburn ex1 rack. What size screws to fit into the eyelets at the bottom? (i.e. near the drop out).

  • building up a speedy time trial bike
want a single chainring upfront 52/53 and have DA 7900 rear 9 speed wheel and block ... would an 8 speed block work better with one front chainring ?
    is this compatible ?

  • Any will work, just use a chain catcher or leave a derialleur on, if it is set up right the chain wont rub it.

Know you were looking for one where you can ride but much to my surprise I loved my first hot holiday in years.

As I grew up we wenrt to the same Spanish resort for years (staying with relatives for free) and I ended up hating all warm places by association. Girlfriend want to go away and chose Barbados (which can be cheaper than you think) and I absolutely loved it. I'm not sure on the cycling but shed loads else to do and I discovered that being warm is quite nce.

That said if she chooses Benidorm there might be a different vibe.

  • Where can I get a waterproof handlebar mount for my Nokia E63 ? I don't need to be able to operate it on the move, just notice when I'm being phoned so that I can stop and call them back.

  • Blackburn ex1 rack. What size screws to fit into the eyelets at the bottom? (i.e. near the drop out).

All racks I've had were secured with bolts from the bottle cages on the downtube.

  • Van Nicholas Yukon - What size bolts m6/7/8 do I need for the mud guards and rear rack? The rear rack is bigger - M8 I think.

I somehow managed to loose all my bolts when I took them off and need to order some more, most probably SS or Ti.

  • Aside: Do you like to 'sign up' to newsletters or 'subscribe' to them?

  • As a general rule, no.

  • Which is less repulsive?

  • "Subscribe" suggests to my archaic worldview that you need to pay some sort of regular fee, so if I had to, I'd rather "sign up".

  • You have to.

  • Where can I buy some hooks like this;

also other varieties of flat hooks, in retail quantities not trade.
