  • Gross question time:

Does anyone who's previously injured their face know how I can get dried pus out of my hair? I have a couple of dressings that leaked early after my accident when my body was in overdrive and I have this shit matted into my eyelashes, eyebrow and hair. It's horrendous.

I've seen warm water on a washcloth suggested but thus far no luck with that - still feels like I'm gonna tear my eyelashes out.

  • ^^ Sorry I know nothing about your question, but heal up soon! Then head here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread27103-14.html

  • Blackburn ex1 rack. What size screws to fit into the eyelets at the bottom? (i.e. near the drop out).

Van Nicholas Yukon - What size bolts m6/7/8 do I need for the mud guards and rear rack?

Most rack/mudguard eyelets are M5, although I had some Japanese frames with M6 eyelets.

building up a speedy time trial bike
want a single chainring upfront 52/53

Use a proper single chainring, not one designed for shifting, and you're unlikely to drop the chain. 8-speed and 9-speed (and 10-speed) cassettes are all essentially the same overall width, so you won't improve your chainline by having fewer sprockets unless you do what we did back in the day and bin the unused big sprockets - I used to run 3-speed 13/14/15 at 6-speed spacing, nowadays you could run 11 & 12 too for a 10-speed spaced 5-speed :-)

  • by single chainring do you mean track specific or ore there single speed specific chainrings
have quite a few track chainrings at home might try one of thiose

  • A 3/32 track ring will work for 8-speed, but probably not for 9/10. Anything with no ramps/pins/lowered teeth is what you're after. They tend to be easier to find in small sizes for 1x9 MTB use

  • hmmm am looking for big ring attitude ! 39T won't quite do that for me
i'll take a look out there and see whats available

  • Is there anywhere I can buy a replacement heel for my sidi shoe?

  • www.sidicafe.co.uk or Chain Reaction.

  • Which is a better thermometer, oral or rectal?

    Depends on what you're into.

Rectal is more accurate, temperature-wise, though. I don't know if you'd find it more or less fun.

Used correctly they both should be accurate.
Rectal for people/things that may bite down or be difficult (babies, animals dangerous offenders) and oral for people who follow orders and don't want things shoved up their arse. If you fit in to neither group, you might as well flip a coin.

Anyone used a Top Peak Tribag before?
Are they worth getting to store a few bars/jelly babies etc?

Yes, if that's what you want then yes. Waterproof one is pointless (since most food is wrapped in some way, or at least can be), after looking around I think wheelies were the cheapest, with a Raleigh version at £7 iirc?

  • does anyone know the name of the printers' coop on Bethnal Green Rd that I have completely forgotten?
failing that can anyone recommend a local printshop for a short digital run? Basic stuff, just 100x a 12pp A4 report.

  • cool, they look good. thanks

  • Can anyone tell me what the black box shape thing is on the top left of this map?

I thought it was the old fuel dump at first

    But then this picture shows nothing in exactly the same spot;

  • Can't recommend as haven't used but I live nearby and though that was the one you meant. ^^

  • Edit. Spenceey's link changed. No idea, but now I'm intrigued... Why do you ask?

it's not, but yelp people seem to approve and it looks like the coop have closed down, so I'll give them a go.

  • looks like a resovoir that might now be covered.

  • It looks temporary, like a polythene structure. Could it be something to do with fertiliser or rape seed or silage?

I'm interested in the RAF and airfields, this one isn't far from me so thought of taking a ride out there.

Just what I thought - although why in the middle of a field?

Looks like some kind of water storage, if it is dug into topsoil that has a layer of clay underneath then you would only need to line the topsoil layer of the reservoir and the black stuff round the outside could well be pond-liner type material. I'm not an expert but it seems like the most feasible idea to me.

It could always be something like this:

Given it is Norfolk the most likely perpetrator is this man:

Maybe settling pond for animal poo? Any fairly large cattle/pig/chicken operations nearby?

  • spotter is wrong, I have seen him several times and he even performed at my 21st birthday - he's great

he's from basildon, so he's alright in my books.

  • spotter is wrong, I have seen him several times and he even performed at my 21st birthday - he's great

and with that, my respect for anything further you will ever say went out the window

  • Slurry lagoon is my guess too. There seems to be a buried pipeline to the nearby buildings, where several smaller lagoons have been constructed in the time between the photos. (It looks like the google image shows the beginning of work on the first lagoon. Possibly this is a result of recent changes in the rules about releasing nitrates.
