  • I'm trying to work out how high Santa Cruz de la Sierra in Boliva is.

My google-fu is not on point.

    Can anyone help?

  • Country Bolivia
    Department Santa Cruz
    Province Andrés Ibáñez
Municipality Santa Cruz de la Sierra
    Founded February 26, 1561
    Government

    **Elevation 416 m (1,365 ft)
    **

  • Ah... so that'll be on the right hand side with all the stats! :s

    Cheers.

  • what does the little bobble before the plug a laptop charger or decent usb cable do? Is it some kind of ground loop isolation wotnot? diode? thing to hold when you pull it out?

They are basically a tinfoil hat for your computer. You see "they who we are not allowed to speak of" can use power cables and decent quality USB cables as antenna to look at the contents of your computer. Simply putting that little plastic lump on there you can stop them from doing this and therefore stop them from gaining the information needed to carry out their evil plans.

  • Some sort of magnetic filter to remove noise

  • that's what I was looking for - repped.

  • Where does one find shims? I have a severe case of baggy break levers.

Old beer/soft drinks cans do alright.

  • baggy in what way? are the cables slack, do the lever brackets move around?

  • Could work. It just occurred to me to cut down an old set of bent bars for a slightly neater finish. I just need to see if the breaks fit those bars and if the old bar fits over the new.

  • The brackets are loose.

  • Old beer/soft drinks cans do alright.

    +1

cut the cans into strips coil round the bar, secure with electrical tape and add the bracket.

  • I suddenly find myself doing the Roubaix. Just over 24 hours notice means I'm a little underprepared. Does anyone have any bombproof wheels (shimano) they can lend me, because I'm not keen on doing it on my rs80 c50s.

I know it's a big ask, but I'll be doing sub 200 miles on them, have my own tyres and tubes.

  • i have ceramic open pro's on CK hubs
    32 holes

you would need to use my brake blocks on them too

You've done 100,000 miles in the last fornight, you'll be fine.

The wheels might not be though :)

  • What's wrong with the fit of my crosscheck? I don't have any actual measurements right now so please just speculate wildly so that I have a list of things to look at.

Standover height is fine, top tube length is fine. Going up hills is like burning acid death agony in my thighs and knees regardless of gear or speed. Going down hills (coasting) is like being locked in a small box for a week with no room to move - thighs, knees, and calves all feel tight and constricted. The saddle seems to be at the correct height and is set back as far as it'll go. Why do I feel like there's not enough room? Cranks too long, maybe? Do I need a seatpost with Epic Setback? Am I imagining the saddle is high enough? Doesn't feel like a too-low saddle problem - if anything it feels like my legs are in the wrong place horizontally. What can I look for when I get my tape measure out tonight?

  • A phone number for a bike fitting expert?

  • I'm going to book myself in for a proper fitting shortly but I'd like to be able to do something to improve my miserable lot in the interim.

  • Keep fiddling with the saddle height?

  • there is the old knee/pedal axle rule of thumb:

get a friend to check your knee is over the pedal axle when the pedals are in the 9/3 o'clock position. how does it compare to you're old bike/other bikes.

  • That guideline s ruined f you have the wrong sized feet.

  • Why? the pedals are in the same place, and so is your knee. Only the heel will move...

  • The knee and ankle angles both change. Trust me, mine are 13s.
