Which Saddle?

  • So I've got a feeling (quite literally) that my planet x super light has lost It's shape, it doesn't seem as comfortable, I'm either sliding off the front of hurting my crown jewels.

I think it's quite common for those Planet-X saddles, you get what you pay for.

just get an Arione - it's what the PX ones are based on (copied from)

    +1

I bought a Planet X just to see how I'd get on with the shape, but it sagged a lot and I'm not heavy.

    The Fizik is better.

  • I've only noticed it recently on my planet x but as I'm using my bike every day of the year I worry it would happen with a more expensive saddle too.

  • I don't think it would. Unless you use a Brooks of course.

  • So why does a planet x superlight sag?

  • Because it's cheap, and like a lot of Planet X stuff it's cheap & light(ish), and therefore not strong. The Fiziks have carbon reinforced plastic shells.

  • So I've got a feeling (quite literally) that my planet x super light has lost It's shape, it doesn't seem as comfortable, I'm either sliding off the front of hurting my crown jewels. Is it normal for saddles to sag/ lose their shape?

    Yes, fattie.

I have SLRs with slight drop in the middle from my weight. No biggie, they're lovely and comfy.

  • This is what I've just done - not because my PX saddle has lost its shape, because it hasn't in over 5,000 miles and I still love it, but because it's got Planet X written all over it, which just won't do for my new, tasteful build. :)

I often think that PX would sell a LOT more shit if they didn't plaster their shitty logo all over everything...

    eg:

    orrrrrr:

  • My romin that's about 2 years old is slightly more comfy than my one that's a few months old, but looks the same.

  • Just a quick post to recommend Koobi. Amazing saddles if you suffer from numbness, and thier customer service is brilliant. Thanks to Steff who was kind enough to lend me one a few years ago.

    Carry on.

  • everyone just get a Specialized Romin....

It's hands down the best saddle I have ever had the pleasure of owning. Hours/whole days of comfort on the bike - I've honestly never experienced anything like it. I've often had quite bad problems with saddle sores in the past— in the last year I've spent considerably more time on the bike than ever before and not had a single one.

Miles better than any of the Fiziks I've had, or sepcialized Toupe etc etc. Available in loads of widths too.

  • Everyone is different when it comes to saddles though. I've had zero trouble with my planet x. Until the weekend when I noticed it was sagging, which considering I've had it for 2 years and well over 5,000 miles I'm happy.

Maybe once/ if the new planet x breaks I'll order a more expensive one, can't see the need at the moment though.

  • ^^ That's what I thought until I tried the Nago Evo.

  • Can be had for £50 online.

You might want to go up a size after measuring - I'm normally happy with a 131-6 saddle (depending on bike fit) but I ended up with a 143 Romin and its perfect. Lucky me that my dream saddle came as standard on my S-Works.

  • My 'intimate' measurements are around the lower end for the 143, so I that'd be the one for me.

  • Do you need to measure perineum girth as well?

  • I'm pretty happy with my specialized riva I got at the end of summer, ridden it more or less everyday since. Very comfy for me. Cheap and cheerful at around £20.

  • and it sits well on my slightly above average sized perineum.

  • I've been riding a Flite trans am lately, new favourite saddle.... just wish I could find one in nice condition.

  • Used a Spesh BG jobby (can't remember which), charge spoon, Fi:zik arione and now rocking the perforated black leather Rolls. Heavy bloke, have suffered pins and needles knob before, no such issues with Rolls. Love it!

  • I've just bought this...

The search for saddle perfection continues.

    How's this working out?

  • Do you need to measure perineum girth as well?

I've not seen that mentioned in any of the Specialized blurb, just sit bones.

The Evolution versions of their saddle have narrower noses for those whose knees sweep inwards (or something), but I don't know what my knees do really. I know I like a low q factor cranks – if that's even relevant.

I'll probably go with the standard (and cheapest) Romin and see how that goes.

  • Thinking of going for the Specialized Romin, but not sure whether it's worth going for the Expert version rather than the Comp. I read somewhere that the Comp has a bit more padding, so I'm inclined to go for the Expert if it's a bit firmer.

  • The Romin Comp is very firm IMO.

  • Yeah - nice and firm.. I think difference is mainly in weight.
