what is the general opinion about Altura clothing? It is cheap and shit, or it is good value for money?
are they a independent brand or are part of another company?
thanks in advanceI had a jacket of theirs and considering the abuse it suffered I'd rate them very well for durability.

How did it smell, Hippy?

When it got its yearly wash it was fine. I'm working on turning a Swrve jacket into the new SJoD.

My 'final' bike project will the about town pub bike that aint so sexy. My wants are:
I want it to have a rack on the rear*.
I want the ability to carry someone, so about 60kg rating. Possibly a stunt peg?
It will run with an Alfine
It needs to be able to hold mud guards with a good coverage.
And I want it to use disc brakes (at least on the front)*well they seem much more practical than the plethora of hip front baskets- though I'm not against having something on the front.
I have this Kona Explosif frame but I don't think it's possible to be able to use a disc and rack simultaneously. Can anyone confirm my fears. Also given my wants can you suggest an alternative frame that will tick all of my boxes?
I'm not optimistic about the front end either:
Hope that makes sense?

You can, there are rack designed for disc brakes, and also have mudguard mount build in too.
topeak make one;
Best one is the Old Man Mountain one that can be mounted on bicycle without even eyelit for such thing, cost a pretty penny thought.

You might be able to make a bracket to fit, but that depends on the tools available to you and your skills. All the disc/pannier ready frames I know of have the caliper inside the rear triangle.

the front is more of a mudguard eyelit to me, which is fine as you just need to bend the stay a bit to compensate, i.e. this;

The new SKS Raceblade Long are what I'm hoping to use:
I forgot to add, that I'll look to use 700c wheels.
I'm not sure my front fork will allow for racks as I can't see where the top of the rack would attach to the fork...
Can you really attach a stunt peg with a rear rack??I'm my head I'm veering towards a second hand 700c frame.
Big thanks for the input and any further input.

I found raceblades to be a pain in the arse, always rubbing on the tyres somewhere.
Much better to use those mudguard eyelets and get a proper set. -

Those integrated mudguard racks aint worth shit. I mean I prefer them to the open ones as a rack but they won't keep your arse dry. Why disc brakes?

thanks in advanceI've never had a problem with it myself, got one of their pocket rocket jackets and It's awesome.
Also have toured for 3 weeks with the altura panniers (56 litre I believe) and they've held up incredibly well. Not a mark on them, which considering I was leaning the bike on them a lot and using them as pillows on the floor says a lot for their durability.

Just got a new stem from Planet X
The torque for the faceplate is marked on the stem (6nm) but there's no info for the steerer clamp (it came with no documentation). Can anybody advise me what torque to use? The steerer is carbon

Anyone know what was going on outside Goldsmiths? Lots of cops, a dented transit van and a fixie rider lying by the kerb looking dazed (but thankfully not hurt)...

No idea but there was a huge police operation on Jamaica road...seemingly randomly stopping cars and vans and searching them...they even had motorbie cops hidden on side streets just in case somebody did a runner.
New Cross and Bermondsey were crawling with po-po this morning.

Was really weird and eerie this morning.
I saw three police roadblock/sting type affairs, and then everything between London Bridge and Clerkenwell was at a standstill. Not just busy, but at a complete standstill.
I felt like I was going to arrive at work to news of some major incident or other.
But no, just a couple of email and the usual grunted greeting from Liz the receptionist.

London Bridge was at a standstill because they've closed Cannon Street Westbound for road works and still haven't reopened Bishopsgate properly. Its a real planning clusterfuck IMHO.
I saw two cyclists getting nabbed by old bill for riding down Cannon Street when it was closed to traffic yesterday. Everybody needs to take a happy pill.

Carbon paste and 4Nm should hold it.

What do you call a machine that's like a computer but mostly like a type writer? We call it a Word Processor but searches for that only bring up software.

Thanks! Have some paste at home so should be all good. Also have a carbon seatpost to go in (Al frame). The seat clamp is marked 10-12 Nm yet the FSA website tells me I should clamp at 3-5Nm. I'll be going with the latter.

So do we.
"wordprocessor typewriter" brings back some better results.

If I wanted to get my shoulder checked out following my crash on monday where do I need to go/make an appointment with? GP first or go to a hospital?
-
• #23249
If you need acute care, hospital - otherwise GP.
A&E will make sure you aren't dead, or about to be, and will reset any bones. If there's potential soft tissue damage etc etc you'll need a referral.

Thx, hatbeard, hippy. Am searching.
Stick the oven on low and chuck them in for an hour?
