Yes but with the cycling my computer stops when I do - I'm also riding fixed. So 45 mins cycling is actually 45 mins turning my legs.
Also if I put in 55 minutes instead (total time taken) at the lower band that is almost exactly the same calories as 45 in the higher band. -

Today I found the instruction manual for the scales we have. Turns out it was set on activity level 4 which is 30min ex for 5 days rather than the highest which is 60min per day for 5 days.
I just lost lost 10% body fat in about 5 seconds. Suck that fatties! Win for reading manuals!
I wonder what setting it should be for 'someone who might cycle the odd 1000k week'?

I've done the opposite (off the bike since 20/10)

just cos your scales say you aint fat aint don't make it so, my doctor says I'm obese, I disagree....
... I'd say cuddly.
Wish BMI took my quads into account....

Hadn't spotted this forum>thread before, so far been very useful just plodding through it.
Until now I've never had a problem with weight, I could do what I want, live how I want, eat what I want when I want and only excersize was purely for enjoyment (gym sessions were only to keep in touch with mates etc).
But now I'm pushing mid 20s I guess my epic metabolic rate is failing me. Though for the past 5years I have been MUCH more careful around processed foods/ salts/ sugar (Used to be a cake fiend) which has probably done me well until now.
My 'about right' weight is 70-75kg (~11st), I'm 5'9" light built up top (though used to have good shoulders and back from rugby from 12-19yrs) but heavy built legs (skinny jeans can >>>>>>>).
I've always cycled a fair amount and I do notice being a bit lighter in summer from more miles and stocking up after winter but never this much.Figure not having a full time job/ point in life means I currently eat a GOOD deal less food (volume/calories/crap content) than I ordinarily would, but not having a structured day/ week means I am doing far less than ever before.
Last summer was nudging 80kg, then lost a bit towards this spring (april'11) then this summer wasn't too bad as was bashing out about 450-500miles a month riding on my own and in groups on road bike and lots of long distance dog walking (all day jobs getting ragged around 'fells by 2x fit & boystrous border collies).
End of summer till now (sept > today) gone from about 80kg - 88kg VERY quickly. Dunno if I'm going crazy but can almost feel the fat jumping on by the day, yet I eat next to fuck all (only crap food being a smattering of peanut butter in mornings).Bit worried about it TBH, almost feel I am at a tipping point, i.e. if I start gaining more now, by spring I'll have too much on to be able to move it again and how bad it is for me.
Only recent change is essentially stopped riding, I'm back down to what I used to do, i.e. ride when and how I feel like it on my own, on MTB and for random distances/ exertions. Stopped riding with yet another club after being literally left for dead on a mountain pass in pretty much a rain storm (50mph+ winds gusting more, rain so bad cars were pulling over) and very nearly got into serious trouble in a remote location; and since then just CBA'd to ride road anymore, too many wankers.
Wonder if anyone has had similar issue? Basically how do I go from here, need to kerb the weight ideally without riding, I used to fellrun but thanks to a pair of good knee injuries unlikely I can take that up again.
Got even worse since that post, can't even remember last time I picked up any bike, must be at least a month, maybe more?
My work is now a cheeky 2miles from home, so you'd think I'd ride or walk it right? Wrong, been driving it, urgh.I can actually feel the fat building by the day.
though I am decreasing food input too.
Just cannot get motivated at all, playing on ebay and thinking of just selling road bikes as they aren't getting used any more (spent more time building them than riding them lol), the 'other' roadies around here are all well up themselves, don't really want to be associated with them TBH. -

I've not ridden since 10th September due to illness and had an op a little over a week ago. Sometimes I think I'm being driven nuts by not riding and no gym either. Hopefully I'll be back on light riding duties from tomorrow.
Still, took the time to build a new full sus carbon beauty and am looking forward to the next project which will be a ti framed single speed.
I know what you mean about fat building by the day, I've put on 4 lbs in the last 2 months!

Hey all, I need to ask a favor.
My best friend's little brother is a body builder (in fact he just won the UK championships) and he's in some online competition. If you have facebook you can vote for him, and he'll win some energy food stuffs and fame. Internet fame, in fact, and we all love a bit of that.
You can vote for Nicholas Moore here:

You need to start walking to work as a start. Also if you are eating too little you'll send your body in to starvation mode which means your more likely to store fat.

is there a witch of the week internetz competition?

Also I need to start being careful what I eat again. Before my wedding I was running 3x a week and cycling to work every day. In the week up to the wedding and after we've been so busy I haven't really had the time.

I've been really concentrating on smashing the phys and eating plenty but healthy for the last 2 weeks and have lost about 9 pounds... can't believe it! Need to keep it up I could be down to a stone from my target weight by xmas.
-
• #2016
I think that's the key to it ^^
Eat plenty but make it healthy. I'll weigh myself tonight and work out a realistic weight for christmas from there.

2kg per week loss? That's not something I would want to sustain for any length of time.
-

So.
Preliminary VO2 Max 51.3
-Done in proper lab on a bike.
I'm ok with it.
Its not brilliant, but its not bad- apparently my wattage output was really good, and I kept a high cadence till I literally couldn't move my legs.Bring on the repeat on Tuesday, and then 6 months of hard, dull training.
Watch this space for a massive bike sale. -

Why massive bike sale?

Well 'm guessing you weren't 17 stone 2 weeks ago.... 16'4 now, would like to be 15 for xmas. Whether or not that happens we'll have to see. Weight loss is a funny thing.

Where before I may have had pasta/rice/potato I'm now having large portions of petit pois/broad beans/sweet corn or salad. All convenient stuff that can be filling but is relatively low in calories I guess.
Still eating toast or cereal for breakfast and the odd sandwich, I'm not doing anything unsustainable. Still enjoying my food. Think cutting out beer is helping alot, that's not completely sustainable as I do enjoy a beer, but trying to make it a once in a while thing rather than a weekly thing.
I'm also rinsing the exercise, did a 50 mile today in 3 hours 10 which an online calculator tells me will have burnt 3500 cals, burnt 2000 running yesterday and cycled a few miles as well, burnt 2500 cycling day before that.... just really concentrating on having a deficit everyday.

Why massive bike sale?
Well, I don't need them, and I've got 6 months of a training regime that requires me to not do any cardio outside of it (its a scientific study so I won't fuck with the results).
And chances are at the end of that- I'll be in 3rd year, so even more busy and I'll get to ride less and less. And mostly, I want to afford a trip to the middle east in summer.
So middle east > bikes. And I really don't need the bikes:
What I need is a beater and thats it for the time being.
The geek will be stripped and put into storage for when I've more free time,
The MTB will become SS as it should have been all along and brought up here.
The CX will go. The roadbike will go/ given to my dad. And the Lavoro will be stripped and stored so I can use it for track in summer (when I'm in London)Not a massive sale, but more to have useable + used bikes, and less unused.
(please excuse my logically illogical brain)

Malaysian- take it easy son. If you go too mental- you won't keep it up.
But good work!
If I'd lost 9 kg in 2 weeks I'd be at my target weight for the next 10 weeks. -
• #2024
I've just had 2 months of barely riding due to an injury, it's good and exciting to be able to train again! Climbing today i actually felt lighter, like I wasn't carrying a bag... really made me smile. Gonna have a few less active days as I'm down in London till Sunday so give my body a break.

what's this study you're doing eyebrows, sounds interesting.
So just worked out that if I hit my target weight then I will burn 600 calories less over the course of a marathon running at the same speed, that's got to be worth it on its own regardless of any other benefits.
In other news the weight seems to be falling off now, not sure a trip to bodeans tomorrow is going to help but I'm not going to worry about it, just pick something I can work out the calories of and live with it!
Re the speed thing on cycling, I agree but have taken it to mean your total average speed over a journey, so whilst my moving average is c20mph on my 5 mile commute I actually cover the distance in 20 minutes total elapsed time so use 15mph as the basis for the calculation which feels a little more accurate.
