    I stupidly decided to redo my brake cable so as to avoid my Vision 1 tonight, and it turns out said cable inner is too short for what I want to do and quite badly frayed at both ends so needs replacing ASAP.

    Won't be able to go for a proper ride tomorrow till I get this sorted. fuuuuuuu...

    A) a succession of £1-£2 ikea frying pans and dispose of them when the non-stick wear out.

    B) buy a £15-£20 "quality" frying pan with a lifetime non-stick warranty.

  • get the more expensive one they cheap ikea ones are horrid, the metal is too thin, the handles flex and no one likes flecks of teflon in their food.

    Depends if you are bit special like my older daughter or not (she'd just casually fry a bit of bacon using a fork).
    An expensive proper Tefal frying pan will last forever, as long as you take care of it.
    Use a soft plastic or wooden utensils.
    Cheap pans are not worth the money. Shit will stick to them.

    I wonder if we are related? I'm from one of those families where pots and pans of quality and antiquity are abundant. It clearly pays dividends in spades to buy once and buy well with this kind of stuff.

    But you're right. I used to work in My Old Dutch. We'd wipe the pans with a paper towel. That's all.

    +1. Maybe not actually forever, but...

    There's also the environmental cost of buying a pan every year.

    And £1-2 pans may be cheap to you but they generally come at a price for someone/somewhere else in the world.

    Regarding pans it should be properly seasoned properly.

  • I'm a big fan of cast iron pans, only thing I found is that as you don't wash them so thoroughly they can some times pick up flavour, when you fry fish in them for example. A trick I learned from my dad is to rub plenty of salt into the pan when your done with it, soaks up all the unwanted flavour left by what ever you last cooked in it.

    Edit: Just remembered the last time I cooked pancakes, the first one tasted slightly of fish, not nice at all. Wont forget to salt the pan again
