I'm still interested, though wrestling with several limiting factors - mainly getting back - the Eurostar Sunday looks to be about £180 - which is clearly too much money for a night in Paris! So the return Ferry would seem a better idea! However, I'm not keen on cycling back to Dieppe, 300 miles in 48hrs is just too much for myself - so I would look to get the train Paris to Dieppe - I can't see anything conlusive on the internet about how possible this is with a bike, has anyone got any idea?
Or I could get the Eurostar back Sat night for about £95 - it seems a bit self indulgent to spend all the money on a days cycling in France - though maybe I'm missing the point?
My commitment to this ride currently is 50-50, the physical requirements asisde, time and finances will be a big deciding factor!

Not sure where you are getting your numbers from but it looks like there are 75quid ticket on saturday and sunday.... rising to 121 if you want to stay until sunday night.

From the Eurostar Website? - it said a ticket last thing Saturday was £75, but you need to add £20 to put a bike on the train? The tickets late Sunday seemed to start at about £166, though they were fractionally cheaper Sunday morning but that seems to defeat the purpose of staying the night if I leave right away - The return ferry would be on the afternoon of the 7th!
I'll have another look later and see, I was using the work computer which seems to struggle with websites such as the Eurostar one - trying to get on something like Facebook would probably crash the computer.

I've just had another look and it does look like the ones for Sunday are disappearing quickly, as you say it's 75 in the morning but 121 in the evening.... and yes you need to add the 20squid.
Also bare in mind that trains that arrive after.....9pm (guess) will have no-one to offload the bike so you'll have to pick it up the next day _ithink....

I think I'll go into the Station tonight and ask them whats available, I don't want to book and then find out I can't take the bike!
I think the unloading would only be an issue if the bike was sent in a box, which is a free option and presumably they can take many more bikes that way - I suppose I could try and get a box in Paris?
The ferry seems a better option, and cheaper - I may just have to come up with a 'medical emergency' at work to have the Monday after off?

I looked at the trains this morning and they are now £40 more expensive so looks like the seats are selling fast! please let us know what you find out about booking your bike on it too. im pretty sure its £20
Option 1: Eurostar- getting more expensive by the hour
Option 2: Cycle/train back to Dieppe leaving 9/10am on Sunday morning, ferry at 17:00 arrives into Newhaven 20:00. There's a train at 20:30 from Newhaven Harbour which is very close to where we disembark the ferry. Single tickets are currently £13.90 for that train ticket. It arrives to London Victoria at 22:34
Return ferry with bike costs £35I'm leaning towards Option 2 now, I think it would be more fun, its got the epic ride/adventure feel to it we're all looking for. Plus we could get the beers in

I am sorely tempted by this, but would want to go for the cheapest option, as I'm buying a new bike. I need to get my head around the logistics. Does option 2 above not include an overnight stay in Paris?

Sorry, folks, the train fares are too high for my taste and I won't be able to extend the ride to going back. :(
I'm definitely keen to do this sometime sooner rather than later, but with longer notice, as good train planning seems to be essential!

Ok, well I didn't get to the station, though I think its pretty clear that the Eurostar is far too expensive an option - It's definatly £20 to walk on with a bike, limited to 4 bikes per train I think as well.
According to their website boxing the bike to travel or folding it up (for those riding a Brompton to Paris and back) is free with any ticket booked, but like most things that are free you end up paying in a myriad of other ways - by having to acquire a card board box in Paris, or having the bike sent on a later train.
Unless it's already been booked I'd ignore the Eurostar as an option unless you have some serious cash to burn!
Who could ignore the £35 ferry ticket! - but that leaves me with only question - can I ride 120 miles then get up the next day and do the same? the answer will become clear this weekend!

Anyone want to leave a day earlier or leave a day later so we get to see more of Paris? Or are peeps not bothered about that? Don't get me wrong, I'm 'all about the ride' but it'd be nice to see the city, innit.
i would be up for the leaving later (preferably the 8th) for the ferry back.

Cycling is happening this weekend!
I'm not sure in what capacity though, I saw the post about the ride from Richmond park Sat morning, though I'm not sure how I'll fare after a work night out Friday night (I work for a social services so innevitably we'll all be swimming in champagne by the end of the evening).
Sunday morning looks better - If anyone has any suggestions of destinations/ group rides then let me know!

laner - few days in paris and cycle to get ferry back on the 8thPifko and I had a look into staying until Tuesday (3 nights). Cheap B&B rooms w/2 single beds is £20/night/pp. Eurostar is £45 on Tuesday vs £75 on Sat/Sun, so total cost is only £30 more. Who is up for that?

It would be nice to say we were cruising along at 22mph, but the flat sections were very few and very far between so don't be put off by the speed.

I *really *wouldn't count on the ferry being so punctual that you can get a 20:30 train. All it takes is some bad wind and you'll be an hour late, it's quite a long ferry journey.
