  • Tales of woe trying to root desire on Vodafone, 2 days trying and counting. Tried 3 different process, 3 different SD cards made into Gold Cards, and 3 different PC's..meh FML

  • Yeah that update is a fucking joke - EVERYONE installed it thinking it was 2.2 - w@nkers

  • Looks like it might be because I am on build 1.24 - rooting only works on 1.21 or lower - there are processes to unbrand it, so that 2.2 gets pushed out, but some people saying it won't work with 1.24

So now gonna just give up and wait for the update from Vodafone. So another very very good reason to buy your phones outright folks

  • Motorola Milestone gets Froyo 2.2 this September. Good news for at least one forumenger.

    Indeedy, happy I am.

That's what my earlier post was about. You are trying to 'update' it with an older version so it won't work. Check modaco - there's probably a way around it.

  • might try this, if this fails, then I will wait

  • This is causing much anger on the voda forums. You now have some shonky music store that doesn't work and some branded homescreens.

    Enjoy.

For those who've not caught up with this, the anger continues...

Does seem like a pretty impressive feck up all round. I'm fingers crossed it does bugger up mine....

  • so glad mine failed

  • If you want to get rid of apps, you should be able to use titanium backup - it will get rid of system apps as well
(but be careful as you may fuck up your phone)
(I've had a rooted phone for ages and can't remember if this needs root, sorry)

  • Yeah its a bit of a shitty update but come on, some of the people on that thread are acting like Vodafone raped their Gran - I'm actually surprised that all that stuff wasn't on the Vodafone branded Desire when I got it, so to see it there now is no biggie. What does annoy me is that they pushed it out knowing full well people would think it was Froyo.....that's very underhand

  • Got my new Samsung galaxy s yesterday. Really good.phone. So nice to use

  • @eightball. Fair point, well made. I did think the first time I booted up my Desire that if Vodaphone had ceased to brand the phone at startup, what this meant long term for their business model.

  • get a friend with a vat reg business to buy it for you.
i am but i'm not buying it for you as i have no desire to get into trouble with HMRC

    you earn £100K?

  • you earn £100K?

Anyone can be vat registered. The threshold for compulsory reg. is £70k not £100k.

  • I use kindle on the phone all the time. Its a godsend.

  • Where I grew up (SE London) 'rooting' means something TOTALLY different so excuse my infantile sniggers. How many of you have successfully rooted your android devices? Anyone fucked it up?

  • "Rooting" still cracks me up. I'm sure every Android geek in Oz is laughing every time they "do it".

I've done a Samsung i7500 without issue. Not bothered with the Desire as it's damn sweet stock.

  • Diversion.......sorry.

Years ago, I had an Aussie guy working for me. He was ex-Navy and used to tell me all about his escapades. That's when I learnt the phrase "getting the roots in". Which was all fine, until he told me about what he and his mates used to do on shore-leave in Thailand........... I wasn't prepared for that.

reaches for Aspirin just in case

  • ..but reading sucks :-(

    Neg rep.

  • I've had to uninstall Y5 - it kept turning WI-FI back on when I'd turned it off manually, Desire - anyone else have this? So annoyoing

  • Plus since installing the Vodfone update I'm losing 1% battery every 4 mins - that's with GSM only (no 3G), no WIFI, no auto synching..........

not impressed, might complain and back this phone - I do like it, but with the branding firmware update, plus Vodafone showing seemingly more loyalty to unbranded handsets by rolling out Froyo earlier than branded, I'm rapidly losing the scant faith I had.....

  • Just about to purchase the Desire then it's HD brother shuffles onto the scene. The waiting game begins once more.
