Yeah this would be the beans. I'm not particularly fussy and currently just swap between machina espresso and artisan roast so will pause the subscription and try this out when we're running low.

Filter (chemex) coffee bloom times - does it make much of a difference? Nearly all recipes I've seen suggest a 30 second bloom before pouring the rest of the water over the grounds, but I'm often still seeing lots of bubbles emerging from the grounds after 30 seconds. Should I be allowing longer if the grounds still appear to be degassing?

Scott Rao suggests a 45 second pre wet/bloom phase which I always felt was too long but worked fine when I tried it:

Personally, I'd say this is the main point. It doesn't really make sense to have a fixed bloom time to cover all beans and grind sizes IMO (though I get why recipes would want to include a figure). I'd wait for the coffee to settle before continuing.

Thanks both. Yeah it's normally closer to the 45/50 second mark that the coffee appears to settle. I tend to favour high altitude African coffees so maybe this has something to do with it? There are so many variables involved with brewing coffee that sometimes it does my head in!

Espresso machine kept fusing the house on Sunday #golfclubproblems
Thanks to a lot of advice from someone on here I have managed to isolate the source of the problem - a short on the heating element.
Of course it was not in an easy access point and was done up super tight. So had to order a very large deep socket and impact driver adapter but the element is now removed and a replacement on order.
Was amazed that after 6 years no scale inside the boiler. Clearly my irregular descaling and plumbing in a water filter have paid off.

I haven’t done a pourover in about five years but back then the new thing was to stir the bloom, as there’s always dry pockets if you just let it sit.

Yep, well I tend to give it a good swirl but agitation is definitely good

Have had to make v60 pour overs while the machine is out of action. Pretty much following the Hoffmann recipe.

What’s the latest?
-
• #22516
Oh,may not be the latest but 30g to 500ml
Add 60ml and swirl
At 45s more water for 30s up to 300ml total
Then add the rest of the water and stir
But this is an old pan recipe and probably all wrong now

Can anyone explain what happened on coffeeforums.co.Uk ? It appears many people have flounced from there to coffeetime.freeflarum.com

Home-Barista.com is sponsored by a few roasters and resellers but doesn’t seem to suffer a bias because of this.

I’m interested to try the beans. Doesn’t look to be any connection to Oddbox.
