  • Will be shifting my Sage Smart Grinder should I be successful. If anyone is after one, let me know

Yes, I’m after one. What kind of age, condition etc?

  • Secured the Niche!

    Wahooo!

  • Was bought late 2018 early 2019. Used for fairly rigidly one espresso a day, two if I'm feeling particularly indulgent that day (literally maybe one day every couple of months). Have all accessories (both sized filter holders, plus grind container and burr cleaning brush. Nothing notable whatsoever about in condition - it hasn't really missed a beat in the time I've owned it. Will attach pictures in next post from my phone!

  • Pictures attached. Couple of marks which I've tried to make as visible as possible in photos - in reality they are much less obvious, as is in the full shot of the machine. (To the point that I hadn't noticed them previously).

Please excuse the 'working' condition of my coffee station!

I'm in BR6 - would prefer not to post due to size but shoot me a PM if you're interested and we can figure something out.

  • What’s everyone’s set up look like. I’ve got my coffee machine and grinder next to each other. But the mess is getting out of hand. I’m constantly wiping coffee grounds. Is there a Matt or something I can put under the grinder to collect the grounds and maybe another put tampering

  • Mine grinder and machine sit on a piece of green slate (that's not the worktop) - most of that ^^^marking is natural colour not coffee! Thats only because I had a right sized offcut though and thought it looked nice.

I've seen people use coffee shop style large knock boxes before - but even if you put them 'on' something, you're just going to have to clean that, why not a worktop that is already designed to be easily cleaned?

  • My grinder sits on the countertop, virtually in the same place all the time (Vitamix and rice cooker are pulled out a bit when in use). The coffee maker sits up on a purpose-built shelf when not in use. Puck goes into the compost to the left, out of the picture.

  • I think the key is to minimise un-necessary things which can get grinds stuck under and to just wipe up each time and an occasional hoover. I have one of those rubber mats which has tamp, portafilter and leveller sat on it and usually chuck that in the sink once a week

  • Coffee shelf here. Would love a Linea Mini, but not sure my wife would! So pour over and immersion brews here.

  • All the rest of the coffee stuff is hidden away in the drawers underneath - I installed an extra internal drawer after we moved in which fits tampers, milk jugs and cloths. Keeps it all neat and tidy, but coffee grinds still get everywhere!

  • Been meaning to big up the Rwanda Cocatu AA from YB, really enjoying it at the moment.

  • I recently got one of these as the grounds tend to fly out of the vario at their own discretion.

had to drop the portafilter holder a tiny bit to fit it in so check your grinder allows for that but now whole process is lot less messy.

I got it in a contrasting colour (black for a silver portafilter) so I could easily tell when it was/wasnt fitted.

  • Thanks for the pics. I'd need it posted because I'm right round the other side of the M25 :(

  • Setup for now

When we redo the kitchen I’ll have a more custom solution along the lines of @Bainbridge to keep bits and pieces out of the way. For now the cupboard above has all the various coffee accoutrements

    Some beaut cabling..

  • Mood lighting, jaunty angles and product placement abound - you a ‘sprofluencer these days?

  • No-one is giving me any free shit, so I guess not!

  • Hi Coffee People

I'm looking for someone that works in coffee to work as a coffee tutor for a project in Barking. It ideally needs to be someone that has managed a coffee shop or worked as a trainer.

It's part of a project called Every One Every Day which amongst other things is looking to support a group of local residents to start and own their own coffee shop as a workers co-operative in Barking. It's come out of an opportunity we created through a collaboration with a developer in a new Ecology Centre as part of Barking Riverside. The training will be primarily in a makerspace called The Warehouse

It is more than just a coffee training gig, and would suit someone that cares about worker ownership and socially minded business and creating a blueprint for neighbourhoods where businesses are an extension of the community. But obviously the most important thing for the tutor is to know your way around a coffee machine!

See attached image for person spec. and dates. and get in touch if you can think of anyone that would be interested and is available.

    Thanks
    Tim

  • Forum approved one cup v60 recipe? I'm using a 02 but only need to get one cup out of it.

I haven't brewed a v60 in ages as I started getting frustrated with them. No going back down the rabbit hole.

  • @birofunk
    18g/250ml/3mins

  • Have asked some coffee heads that I know around east - will let you know if I hear back @IdealStandard

  • Slightly off topic, so apologies in advance. How are you getting on with the Vitamix stainless steel container shown in your photograph? I like the idea, but wonder how it is in practice being opaque, e.g., how does one know whether something solid is not reaching the blade, requiring the tamper?

  • Right that's my morning brew sorted. Was using 15/250 and not really feeling it this morning

  • I got the stainless container in anticipation of having hot things to mix up periodically, not comfortable with the plastic for that. The opacity has not been an issue as you can hear (and see through the lid) when hard items make it to the bottom. Regardless, I use the tamper to get that whirlpool action going, and then you know for sure that it’s all reaching an even consistency. I love the stainless thing, it’s robust and reminds me of how milk shakes used to be served in restaurants.
