The front mech works very well. Only issue is that the battery provides a massive flat topped area for mud to accumulate that’s very close to the rear tyre

LOL less clearance than my track bike which I literally had built to have just about no clearance.

how are you making that finishing kit float in the air like that......?

I hope that's a very deep seattube crease.

Starting to build up my Carbonda CF696, it arrived 3 weeks ago but I was too busy to do anything with it. Now I've bust my ribs so have some time. Di2 routing was a piece of piss compared to the Strael. Massive BB with an access panel on the bottom and delivered with all the cable guides in place.
Love the paint and have done some heli taping, but I fully expect it to get destroyed so can't be too precious. I'll find out tomorrow if @amey is right to be worried about fitting a sub compact chainset.

Custom paint on a bike that will sit in your house covered in mud/dust 90% of its life. Out.

Clearance is fine for summer (planning on using this bike for a crack at the ridgeway double fkt, so wanted low tread and high volume).
Seat tube is indeed indented

I'm not saying it won't get used, I'm saying it will be caked in mud 90% of its life. My Tripster gets used regularly enough that I don't bother cleaning it so it spends most of the time looking like it was painted with mud and a custom paint job would be somewhat pointless. Actually while the wheels were off the missus cleaned my gravel bike so it's the cleanest its been for 6 months. The MTB is still caked in mud though.

Then again I guess people with custom paint jobs probably spend more time cleaning the bikes so maybe worth it. Still out.

so I hope the paint will outlive his GRX
Not under my watch

The people at Cannondale must have been thinking this

Is there a replacement derailleur cage (I am thinking AliExpress or something budget) anyone can recommend that just about does what the garbaruk / Wolfcage does, but for a price that doesn't make me think I should just get a cheap long cage derailleur.
I don't even want to use it for a crazy 10-50t cassette - would be happy with max 42t tbh, and probably will have bar-end shifters, so pull shouldn't matter hugely...
(NB I would probably just get the wolfcage thing, but I have SS 7800 derailleur so it wouldn't match the outer plate I already have)

Is that paint? hahaha it's uncanny...

i can still see plenty of paint here, you should consider a custom job on your next one

The rest of the bike is covered in electrical tape.

Least hassle is to sell the short cage one and buy a GRX long cage?

You can get aftermarket Shimano long ("medium", stupid name) cage and swap them. Or at least, you used to be able to, before CampagCovid took out Shimano across the globe.

caked in mud
You should work on your mud caking, that's barely splashed..

Is not possible just slap a 36t cassette and ride with the big derailleur? That's what I do with 11 speed SRAM, don't even need to swap chains, just change wheels between road or gravel setup and adjust the b-screw. Bonus if you have the same hubs, otherwise you'll have to space the rotors to avoid centering the brakes every time.

I've been searching for the same thing with no luck for Sram Force 11s. Ended up buying a used SX mech (cheapest 12 speed groupset) and salvaged the cage. It was still cheaper than the Garbaruk.
I think the same can be applied for Shimano.

I wannna try 50mm, my Checkpoint definitely have the clearance for it but got a good deal on the Byway 44mm.

Not gonna work well, as the derailleur is designed specifically for 10-50, so it will shift like shit.
Kinda, SRAM doesn't openly specify that their Force AXS chainring work with Eagle 12 speed (much like Specialized using 11-36t cassette despite shimano stated it only go up to 11-34t).
Edit; they do specify it will work on their website (SRAM), this mean all I need to do is get a Rival derailleur, chain and cassette to get a 10-36t on the rear providing a nice road-like jump with a 40t chainring.
