  • As far as I can work out it appears there is a cut off around 18-20oz where they stop offering the cinch. I am tempted to go for a pair at around 18 oz with cinch, braces buttons etc.

  • I don’t get cinches. If your jeans are so loose that you need to use a cinch, you end up with a baggy arse. If your jeans fit properly, you don’t need one.

  • @dancing james well shucks. Thanks.

@Tenderloin v kind. Tbh, with FedEx shipping only bring $20, I'm not too fussed. I've paid that much for shipping in the US before!

@markyboy cinches are really great IMO. I hate wearing a belt. If a pair of jeans, after stretching, are slightly too loose - and I mean like 0.5 inches too lose, the cinch takes up the slack. They only have about an inch of tightening capability so it's not like people wearing are wearing a 36 with a cinch when they should be in a 32.

They're also a historical touch that are mostly found on pre-WWII models.

The only pair of 'modern' jeans I can think of that have a cinch are Edwin SENs. And I agree that on there they make no sense as they are skinny jeans.

  • Are they wearable?

I don't actually like overly heavy denim, but with the custom aspect I wonder if I could have them as motorbike jeans. Although that would require more thought than I have spare at the moment.

On cinches. I love the aesthetics, but on the couple of pairs in the past I've had they tended to loosen a bit anyway negating what would have otherwise been super useful for a fabric that gives so much.

  • They are for me but it’s pretty cold where I live. Probably wouldn’t recommend them for the UK climate.

  • Was thinking more if you want something specific that might be found in one of the denim stalls/shops - which are unlikely to have good websites (if any). Any way I’ll just WhatsApp you nearer the time

  • Gotcha gotcha gotcha. Thanks. Speaking about Hinoya specifically, the website is very, very useable. I think after global rakuten shut down they were like oh shit we are about to lose a huge chunk of our revenue let's translate our site to english pronto.

This does mean that 34+ is often sold out immediately in jeans, though.

  • I have three pairs of Lee 101 B. Bought them all in one go at TKM in Brixton about 10 years ago when I hit a rich seam of underpriced denim. They’re in various states of wash and shrinkage. Sadly the shrinkage on all was so extreme and my middle age spread so profound that all three pairs are currently languishing in a storage box labelled “clothes I’m now too fat for”.

  • Hahaha I need one of these. Hoping to at least be slim enough to wear some of them by summer.

  • They make you feel like you're working down a mine in the 1890s when you're slaving over a hot help desk... I got to the point where I would cut the cinch off my 1933s or 201s, they just got in the way...

However, I only cut them when I saw old photos of OG cinch-back owners who had done exactly the same thing... Then I went back to work tirelessly pushing pixels around a computer screen...

  • On the subject of work jeans.

Finally got around to picking up a pair of vintage Swiss army denim work trousers. They are a replacement for my now worn through '00 vintage selvedge Diesel (I know, the horror). Used to wear them for labouring but became my DIY jeans when overalls are a too much faff.

Online images give a good depiction. Have that 70s workwear vibe. Good choice if you want some jeans to work in. Still comfortable and normal enough if you just want that aesthetic.

Pretty please with them, and tempted to get a grade 1 condition pair in a slightly larger size.. altho as my OH said; "wtf are those?" I may not. Would also quite like the matching top as a spring work jacket, but probably not in a DD combo.

    Points to note are;

    • high waisted so " sizing maybe a little snug depending on your tummy size.
    • if you want to wear over other trousers as originally intended size up accordingly.
    • access to under trouser pockets is pretty well sealed, but could get breezy if you're crouching a lot and it's windy.
    • belt and braces options - @dancing james
    • nice choice of pockets without looking too carpenter
  • I fancy some more jeans. Having sold my Iron Heart 88 21oz because they were a bit small. Short of getting another pair, but in 14oz. Is there anything similar to look at?
Less eye wateringly expensive is good, but must be as good quality.

  • I really rate Indigofera. Never had anything from Iron Heart though, but they seem to share views on quality so could be worth a look

  • Rogue Territory Standard Issue or 3 sixteen classic taper might fit the brief & available in a couple of different weights

  • Let’s have a link?

  • After spending ages thinking if I should pull the trigger on a HebTro moleskin overshirt I did and it turned up yesterday, I must say excellent build quality feels and fits like a glove.

A bit more than what I wanted to spend however you get what you pay for, highly recommend.

  • Really rate their stuff and would like that shirt but without the pocket lids

  • Cheers, I was looking at some tcb/ second sunrise trousers not too far off those but 10 times the price

  • No worries.

Just edited my reply so check out the arm surplus place too.

Also came across this place for military outlet, no jeans, but do have jackets/workshirts. https://gb-swisslink.glopalstore.com/products/swiss-military-jean-jacket-used?_pos=1&_sid=03ac2deef&_ss=r

  • They are bringing out a jacket in moleskin in the coming weeks I think. Will be same style as the just released selvedge denim jacket.

  • I was in the same mindset but once it arrived and I tried it on, I was very impressed.

  • If anyone is interested I have a pair of studio d'artisan chinos in olive green I'm going to sell. unworn brand new and has tags size 36. £75 + postage.
Thought I'd put shout here 1st.

  • Ooh, if only they were black... Very tasty... Twenty plus years ago I got married in a pair of SD-101s...

  • Yeah they are lovely. The fabric is amazing and the construction is top. Bought them in japan before I got injured. Got injured & got fat and looking to trim down on stuff.
