  • Just testing riding the fixie in the Antares Rollers with the stand I get a wobble like here:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-LY8N_99sw

Now concerned this might stress and possibly break the Easton SLX full carbon fork?

  • Just shelled out for a second Vacmaster
Recent fitness gains appear to translated into a 10x increase in heat production.

  • @amey - how are you finding the sufferfest, compared to zwift, trainerroad, rouvy etc?

  • very 'enjoyable' .. defo more incentive to do structured workout, yet to try trainerroad

rouvy doesent work with Saris H3 I think

  • Does anyone have any opinions on the 365x Fluid trainer from PlanetX Bikes.
What alternatives are there in the £120-£150 price bracket?

  • I've not used it but it seems 'identical' to this..?

    https://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-tt-02-fluid-trainer

(which has plenty of positive reviews and is cheaper - and probably less faff if something goes wrong?)

  • Yeah that is what I thought, but I wanted confirmation. £12 difference, but I want a mat. CRC/Wiggle are out of the cheap mats - the branded ones are twice the price of the ones at Planetx. Overall Planetx even with the shipping is cheaper. Though you are right about the support equation.

  • Anyone have a Feedback Ominoum they are looking to move on? Or would rent to me for next few weeks?

  • I've dropped you a PM.

  • New home, new setup, softer carpet.

What do people use on their soft carpet flooring? Wouldn't want to remove it if possible.
I was thinking of building off a little patch/corner of the room with 2cm thick gym tiles, then use a mat on top for the sweat.

    Any first hand experience/solutions?

  • I use a 5mm gym equipment mat (york fitness) on the carpet. Other than a bit of a depression where the feet meet the floor, seems to have kept the carpet fairly healthy. What is worrying is how clean the carpet under the mat seems compared to the rest thats not protected...

I also had a Cycleops one which was thinner/stiffer (4mm), which seemed to bunch up/warp as the turbo moved about a bit.

I've used interlocking gym tiles, but I found that they didn't really sit flush, and would lift up. I didn't think of putting a mat on top though.

At some point, I'm going to getting something like this, a seamless rubber 'pad'
    https://www.floormats.co.uk/structural-protection-rubber-mat-20mm?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIq8n8gNKO7AIVA-ntCh13SgL9EAQYByABEgL2AvD_BwE

  • Yeah, 20mm is that I was thinking.

Also thought of reverse taping the seams from the underside to make sure nothing seeps through.

Ideally you'd put a plywood board above the carpet below the mat for additional stiffness (and cost)

  • I just use a cheap thin rug, I'm not worried about vibration or noise with my turbo so it's more about protecting the carpet from any chain oil and sweat.

  • The interlocking tiles you linked are quite 'foamy', and not so dense, though it may not bother you. I did use similar purchased from Halfords of all places, and duct taped the seams on the top. The denser rubber matting or commercial grade gym foam/rubber flooring is much denser and seriously heavy.

2 plywood boards and a couple of tennis balls and you have a rocker plate...

  • What about the smell?

  • The smell of defeat and despair? That's thoroughly permeated through the flat already

  • I prefer the smell of defeat to arrive nearer the end of a workout rather than right at the start...

  • this discussion needs. @Fox or @dbr not sure who linked it

  • I haven't used my turbo for two months. @hippy - do I need to do a ramp test, or shall I just halve my ftp and act like it's all fine

  • Same here, did a ramp test, was pleased to match where I left things off 2 months ago despite just actually enjoying riding bikes in the meantime

  • Sometimes I'll just resume where I was. But for two months off I'd knock some arbitrary amount off (like 20%) and start again with a ramp at your earliest convenience. If you notice it too easy or two hard it'll quickly become apparent if your FTP is off in either direction, assuming you're doing Base of some sort and not trying to do VO2s or some shite.

  • I was enjoying bikes, but not very often. Also, if I'm enjoying it, it's highly likely I wasn't putting much effort in :-D

  • Ta very much. This is why you're the guru of indoor sweating ;-)

  • Anyone know why Garmin Connect isn't showing training effect for Zwift rides? It's not terribly important but it seems odd that it's not showing me anything
