Me and this bike are still having a great time. I have some pretty wild plans for next year I think, to turn this into the ultimate town bike with flat bars and different forks. But we'll save that for another time.

What's the biggest tyre this is specced to fit?
This bike is like my dream all round bike. I intend to build myself one. -

700 x 40. Though to be honest, for actual out and out road riding, 30c is probably the biggest I'd ever consider going. I've ridden bigger when audaxing and there was no need. Unless you know you're gonna be riding somewhere where the roads are really bad, 30c is a pretty good all around size I feel.

Yeah I'm sure. I fancy a bike to replace my arkose which currently has 42c plus guards but I'd be happy with 32 and guards for most of the year and ability to just chuck on the 42s without guards on the odd off road ride in the summer.
If it rides well and fast with quicker tyres on nicer wheels then I could replace my caad too.Dreamy.

Can't you use some slimline spade connectors instead of the magnetic ones? I know the bike has probably had enough invested in it that you might as well get the snazzy magnetics but it's another option at least.
Summer/winter mode looks incredible. Not so sure about town bike mode...

Yeah, I could. But I'm not going to. I bought some of the Supernova ones and didn't really like the connecting mechanism. I'm moving to the U.S. next month so I'll get some Dyna-Snaps when I'm there, ready for winter.

I've heard you shouldn't attempt to build your dream bike first as you'll screw it up for sure. Build some other frame, learn a few lessons, do the dream bike the second time around

Yeah I didn't say it would be my first build :)

Banging. Always handy on an Audax.

Had those on the hope wheels I got for the summer. But I just sold them with the rotors... there’s no discernible difference in performance IMO.

Officially passed 10000 recorded kilometres on this today. As happy as ever. Riding with a lot of people in New York without genders and seeing their filthy shoes and wet bums (not a euph) makes me appreciate it all the more.

Cisgender cycling is so last year.

Heh. Fenders*

Have you turned it into a commuter yet?
-
• #419
No. There’s nowhere to lock bikes at work and I posted the thing about commuting before I found out how much bike storage space I had :-( the only second bike I can have in this apartment is a Brompton.

Just out of curiosity how did you get on with the Hope 20five wheels, I remember looking at them a while back and can’t quite remember if they were heavier or more expensive (or both) than the equivalent wheelset from Hunt? Needless to say I bought neither.

I have the hope 25s and they are faultless, better hubs if you dont mind the noise easy to change the end caps. I wouldnt worry about a warranty as they dont go wrong . Internal width is 21 mm if your thinking tubeless.
-
• #422
They were really good. I’d have kept them if I didn’t move country. Really liked them. Rode really nicely, cheap, great hubs, true as anything. Normal J bend spokes and tubeless. Tubeless install was a piece of piss too...
-
• #423
Hope over Hunt, mainly because the hubs itself are very easy to maintain despite the disadvantage of j-bend spokes.
-

I also just changed the freehub to a steel one. Pull the old one off swap the green seal which was tight but a hairdryer softened it and it popped in place . Now even louder! Ten min job

LOL
What disadvantage of j-bend spokes?
Looks ACE, dgaf about gappy fork.
