  • Confirmed: controltech bar extensions don't fit. The expander wedge is too big.
    @Alb

  • Weird! Must've used some thicker wall tubing vs. the norm then. Too big by a long way? Wonder if then the road version will be too baggy?

  • Not by much, bar internal is 17.40mm expander external is 17.60mm. I doubt they used a different wedge on other versions for the expander, just changed the extension itself.

  • If you have a disc sander or other you can reduce the diameter and get them to fit. You need to reduce he wedge and the bar extension.

  • Dont know what the expander is made of (alu?) wouldn't a file be able to nip off .2mm?

  • I also checked the extension itself and thats too big for the bar. I may try and find someone with an adjustable reemer and skim .2 off the internal.

  • I see Jeff has now launched a cheaper straight gauge version of his loop bars...see what you lot have driven him to!!! :)

  • Anyone know if the controltech extensions will fit on titec h bars? It would appear they have a woefully short grip area...

Still looking for fu manchus tho if anyone has changed their mind.

  • Anyone tried the V.O. Crazy bars? They do look pretty out there but should have a good number of usable positions. Not produced in 31.8mm but there's always shims.

  • Measure the internal and if they will fit you can have mine.

  • Sweet, chak is dropping the bar off to me later so will bust out the calipers and let you know.

  • Internal looks to be 18mm with steel ruler but will find my calipers in the morning to be sure.

  • Apparenlty Jones are releasing a cheaper version soon

  • Those VO bars weigh a ton though!

  • Certainly do. The alloy versions are a respectable 450 grams for a bar with so many bits welded onto them, but not rated for mountain biking.

I've taken the plunge, figure I'll mostly be using them for multi-day trips where I'll be going for the slow and steady approach, so 400 grams extra weight won't be off a primary concern.

  • Pair of h-bends for sale over at STW for a reasonable £75.

  • Does anyone have a set of the Fu Manchus they'd like to sell? I'm a little late to the party and Alpkit have cleared out their stock. I'm planning on riding the Cairngorm Loop a little later in the year and these would work a treat.

  • lol join the queue!

  • Has anyone added arm cups and extensions to a pair of jones or fu manchus? Just finished 2 weeks riding around Scotland and ladyliz really could have done with a way of tucking out of the wind.
Did @Black_Rainbow_Project have something along these lines on his Rob English? Mounting cups on the back loop and some short extentions on the front would be ideal.

  • Was at Evans Trafford Park after work yesterday, someone has a large-ish Krampus with a dropper post and Fu Manchu bars. Interesting combination.

  • Jones Gnarwall

    Normal TT clip ons

  • The gnarwall is the simple daftest thing I've seen. Just no.

Is there a set of clip ons known to work well? Don't recognise the brand logo in the above pic.

  • What grips are those?

The unicorn thing is ridiculous. I should have got those alpkits when I had the chance oh well.

  • Hahaha... I was just about to post you a picture of my bars, then I read your opinion on the Gnarwal. :)
I'm currently using a combination of a cut down Gnarwal on the front and my custom English arm rests at the back.
I actually really like that Gnarwal with my setup because it's not crazy long like Jeff uses it... Thanks to me designing my arm rests to be further back, in line with the steerer.
That said though, I'm currently working on a new setup which will be going back to the double front extensions again, more like I originally designed and got Rob to build... Except these will be smaller and lighter.
I am fully behind aero bars though for dirt touring, so long as they're set up closer and higher than regular road aero bars.
Here's a picture of the way mine are currently set up.....
