I grew up on these babies...

Yeah - absolutely. The main difference for me was at breakfast times. Instead of the typical bowl of porridge, i'd eat a egg/kale/tomato oven bake thing and not need to eat until lunch

Reminds me of one of the few passages of Gravity's Rainbow that I could understand and remember.
These people are really insane. No sugar, natch. He reaches in the candy bowl, comes up with a black, ribbed licorice drop. It looks safe. But just as he's biting in, Darlene gives him, and it, a peculiar look, great timing this girl, sez, "Oh, I thought we got rid of all those---" a blithe, Gilbert & Sullivan ingenue's thewse---"years ago," at which point Slothrop is encountering this dribbling liquid center, which tastes like mayonnaise and orange peels.
"You've taken the last of my Marmalade Surprises!" cries Mrs. Quoad, having now with conjuror's speed produced an egg-shaped confection of pastel green, studded all over with lavender nonpareils. "Just for that I shan't let you have any of these marvelous rhubarb creams." Into her mouth it goes, the whole thing.
...
There is no graceful way out of this now. Darlene has brought a couple-three more candy jars down off of the shelf, and now he goes plunging, like a journey to the center of some small, hostile planet, into an enormous bonbon chomp through the mantle of chocolate to a strongly eucalyptus-flavored fondant, finally into a core of some very tough grape gum arabic. He fingernails a piece of this out from between his teeth and stares at it for a while. It is purple in color.
...
Under its tamarind glaze, the Mills bomb turns out to be luscious pepsin-flavored nougat, chock-full of tangy candied cubeb berries, and a chewy camphor-gum center. It is unspeakably awful. Slothrop's head begins to reel with camphor fumes, his eyes are running, his tongue's a hopeless holocaust. Cubeb? He used to smoke that stuff. "Poisoned..." he is able to croak.
...
"Oh that's nothing, have one of these---" his teeth, in some perverse reflex, crunching now through a hard sour gooseberry shell into a wet spurting unpleasantness of, he hopes it's tapioca, little glutinous chunks of something all saturated with powdered cloves.

I glanced at that and thought "another sub-genre of the internet I don't understand and don't want to investigate in any more detail"

It's for people that get high on the weeds all of the time and then turn to the ketogenic diet in an attempt to mediate their munchie-induced accidental gainz.
But yeah. I mean it's no /r/UNBGBBIIVCHIDCTIICBG/, but yeah.

• #9692
Ahh, I see the 'baked' references now and get it. Man, there is a subreddit for anyone.
wtf is UNBGBBIIVCHIDCTIICBG ?
-
• #9693
It is a subreddit that was created in response to "Upvoted because girl" where people put vids/pics that they liked just because of the girl in it.
Instead they created this "upvoted not because of the girl, but because it is very cool". But then they admit that initially they had clicked on it because of the girl. The full acronym stands for:
Upvoted Not Because Girl, But Because It Is Very Cool – However, I Do Concede That I Initially Clicked Because Girl.
reddit, you know?

This was my biggest problem. No portion control especially when eating highly calorific foods.
Doing the 5:2 diet and aiming for 2500 calories on non diet days made a big difference.
Over 1.5 stone lighter than the beginning of the year and still hoping to lose at least another .5 stone.
-
• #9698
Beginning of the year I was 15 stone 7, this morning 13 stone 9. Target was 13stone7, but now revising it to 13.

Ive now been weighing myself at the same time daily.
mornings after a decent training session 77.7kg.
Morning after BBQ, beer, and sangria 77.0kg.
I have thus proven the effectiveness of the sangria diet (patent pending).
-
• #9700
You'll need to control experiment.
Drink sangria on one day with. On one day without.
You'll need to double blind. This has the makings of an interesting study:
"The effect of Sangria as a weight loss aid in a population of 1 exiled expat in Norway"I'm sure we could get that in BMC or PLoS.
With follow up papers:
"The effect of Sangria (without alcohol) in a population of all bespoke bike owners visiting Norway who duoathlon up a fucking big mountain"
I couldn't care less about dis-proven fads like paleo (neanderthin!), but eating unrefined, unprocessed foods goes a long way to feeling better, sleeping better, and having steadier weight over a period of time. IMHO.
After eating a mountain of shit food on Tour Divide I felt really really terrible. It was mostly refined sugars, corn starch and other terrible processed, chemically enhanced shit. I even bought some salted almonds in New Mexico, which contained artificial flavouring. WTF!
It's taken a month to clear out, at least it feels like that. I know recovery is slow from something like this, but I think the poor food had a worse effect than 18 hours a day on the bike for 21.5 days.
Also, eat lots of roughage like Kale, Spring Greens, etc, seems to help the flow somewhat, and some talk I watched mentioned roughage as a beneficial agent in reducing fat absorption.
