Yeah, i'm no buying this collective responsibility stuff either.

If drivers were 'tarring with the same brush' then they wouldn't roll their window down and talk to me calmly and politely when I've stopped at a light (probably because I've decided its not safe to jump it) and other cyclist(s) around me have continued through.

A car that sits in the advanced cycle zone imo is not the same as the huge amount of cyclists that I have seen that cycle straight through a set of lights.

What's the difference then?

red light jumping by cyclists is becoming my biggest hate.

What's your current biggest hate (assuming we're keeping within the context of road users' behaviours) - We can only hope that it's drivers jumping red lights, speeding, driving carelessly, using mobiles and all those other things that actually endanger other road users.

Maybe you see things differently. I would suggest that sitting on a box that is still normally a couple of meters behind the pedestrian crossing is not the same as going straight through a red light, either crossing the paths of other motorists or 2 lots of pedestrian crossings. Although as I mentioned, you may see it differently.

Having only seen a car blatantly go through a red light when either another lane of traffic was crossing it's part, or when the pedestrian crossing was showing a green man a few times, I would say the reaction to such an occurrence is normally quite rightly extreme. The first thing I would think is are they drunk, is it stolen etc. On a bike, people almost expect it.

So it's about how visible the traffic offence is? And somehow dependent on the layout of the road?

I don't know if I see it differently or not, as you're failing to explain how you see it - What's the difference between a cyclist crossing the stop line on a red light, or a driver crossing the stop line on a red light?

Really? As Greenhell said on last page, amber gambling is normalised, I'd add that 1 or 2 cars through on red was pretty normalised too.

I must have it wrong then if I go against the views of others. I think there is a difference between stopping a foot or so over a line and blatantly going through the whole junction but maybe I'm in the minority that doesn't see everything in black and white, and compare everything in pure whataboutery. Amber gambling is normalised, you're right, and it doesn't make it right. I haven't came across a set of lights where there is a green Man or traffic crossing the path the instant a light changes from amber to red. Normally there is a small time gap in the changing of the other signals.

That being said, the traffic in London is obviously a lot more than in Glasgow. The only times I've seen amber gambling with multiple cars coming through even after that is Hermiston Gait outside Edinburgh where there are multiple accidents, and people quite rightly get held responsible through insurance claims, and where somebody has clearly went through a red light and caused and accident, charged by the police as well.

Every traffic light in London has drivers zooming through on amber, even if nothing's behind them. Speeding up to accelerate towards a just-changed red is common too, the sort of behaviour that killed a Sri Lankan chap yesterday. Even allowing for the disparity in numbers I'd say more drivers jump lights than cyclists do, which explains the fact that a cyclist in the capital is more likely to be hurt or killed by a driver jumping a red than by jumping a red themselves.

How can Amber be removed?
Riding or driving along at 20+mph and 2 metres from the lights they go from green straight to red.
Any car or bike very close to the lights when they change would be running a red light wouldn't they?

@.kerley you don't slow down at junctions? Maybe your driving style is the issue and not the junction?

You seriously slow down to 10mph approaching green traffic lights?
I think your driving style is more of an issue.
And in fact you would need to go even slower than that if they could go from green to red in an instant.
