Proponents of the the China study, particularly the aforementioned Dr. Furhman, have been recommending an increase in fruit and vegetables for many years now. Of course, their ideas go against the current trend so tend to get rejected, but the results speak for themselves.
Dr. Oyinlola Oyebode, UCL
I've found that many sports and fitness amateurs - and professionals too - get so caught up in their macro quantities, they seriously neglect their fruit and veg intake.
Well glaze my nipples and call me Rita, vegetables are good for you?!

• #7928
not if you glaze them.

I think it's basically because you use all of your body when doing squats and deadlifts so.
DFP will be along with a copy and paste soon enough
Yeah there'll be all sorts of broscience about increased this or that levels, but big compounds work more muscles all at once.

Meanwhile, in the weight/fat loss thread....

Diddums. I note you remain silent on the protein issue. Realised you are completely wrong and changed to vegetable discussion. Well done you.

I read the paper you referenced. Do I really need to quote from it?

I've been doing leg presses and calf raises (mainly because I can't face taking 200kg off the bar in front of everyone once the giants have finished). I heard that working on larger muscle groups (quads and glutes) causes your body to produce higher levels of testosterone, helping the rest of the workout. Is this BS?
If it is BS, its BS I follow.
The idea is to shock Your body into producing muscle building Chemicals/hormones etc.
I start each workout. With these..
Deadlift to hips, push striaght legs, snatch to shoulders, push up till arms straight, reverse, and repeat. (I Guess theres a name somewhat Shorter than that). It uses a shit load of muscle fibre, and thus has the best chance of switching the body to muscle building mode. Its also an awesome rugby forward routine.
Exactly why I do this when I'm rarely playing rugby, and InFact preparing for a season of cycling up Mountains. Is a Beyond me.
BTW. This is all nicked from a PM on here. From TM.

I've been vegan before, but stopped when I was abroad due to the limited choice of food in that particular country. I went vegan with my partner and housemate for lent. The housemate lasted a week. My partner is loving it, so it's a permanent thing again. If you live with a partner, it can become expensive and time consuming to cook and prepare separate meals. Fortunately, in four weeks she has noticed an improvement in her energy levels, her skin has cleared up, her work colleagues say she is radiant' and glowing', her periods have been less intense, and she has lost a little weight.
Hippy had a dig about my strength so it seemed apt that I invited him to challenge it.
In four weeks? There's something a little odd going on there, then.

^ Or more because what you're saying sounds like BS.

ANYWAY! Isn't there a weightlifting thread? Can't we move all the weights chat there and keep this thread for what it's meant for?

Bored Hippy?
Generally, yeah. There hasn't been a crackpot on here for a while and I miss the old days of being able to nurture them into full craze™.

The actual exercise stimulus has a catabolic effect. The post workout nutrition, if soon enough, has an anti-catabolic effect. Muscle building is a result of the right stimulus, rest & recovery, and nutritional timing. The actual muscle building doesn't happen in the exercise phase.
Bad Word use by me. I was trying o be vague to reflect my lack of knowledge.
Makes the weight lifting betterer.
