Thanks to someone deciding to grab a handful of brake during the rapha cc road race yesterday, I am now part of the club. Have only ever broken my thumb... this is much more annoying.
It is a pretty clean break half way along, so looks like it will just be a sling, but I have an orthopaedic meeting on Friday. Already losing my mind sitting at home.
In terms of work, how long would people recommend staying away? I have a desk job and don't want to go back until I know i can get through a day of work without discomfort / needing pain killers. It is my dominant side, and I have road rash all down my back, so I have said to them I will be out this week and then will re-asses on Friday after I see the surgeon. I don't want to take the piss but equally don't want to push myself.
In terms of pain, it was pretty bad two hours after coming off, but since then I haven't been too bad. I slept most of the night (years of long haul flights has made sleeping while sitting up not too hard for me) and haven't really needed pain killers since. Fingers crossed it stays like that.
The guy who does my training plans has already got turbo sessions in my diary. Taskmaster!

I have done it on road and mtbs and have had no problems @hippy. Also the apidura is still free to use if you want to try it out!

Unfortunately mum is on the other side of the World back home in Australia, otherwise we would be there for sure. Hardest thing I have done moving here but my family is great and have been supportive in allowing me to follow my / my partner's life goals. We have a few de facto attitudes at the moment: "quality time, not quantity time" and making sure we all support each other. Bloody hard though.
The more I think about this the better an idea I think it is. One of mum's problems is that most support for people suffering dementia is aimed at the 80+ bracket, which means she cannot really relate to anyone else and gets upset going to organised support groups, etc. This would be a very good first step for people in the same boat.

This is great @skydancer, thanks for posting this.
My mother has early onset alzheimers and cycles almost every day - I would highly recommend encouraging people to try this if anyone is interested. Going on rides with mum when I am back home is one of my favourite things to do now. She bloody stomps too.

Just spent 5 days bikepacking through Scotland. Overnight sleeper to Inverness, few days in Cairngorms following the Cairngorm loop (the trail into Landseer Bothy was brutal but fun - about 7km of hike a bike through bog), through dalwhinnie via the distillery to Fort Augustus to Invermallie Bothy, down to Kilmartin Castle via Duror and James of the glen bothy.
Had a blast, Scotland is amazing. Midges were bad in spots but never more than an annoyance if you had a midge net and covered up. Smidge works okay - they still annoy you but not as many bites for sure.
I did it on the Pugsley with 26 x 3.8s and my mate did it hardtail. Just got some 29+ wheels made which would have been perfect if they were with me in time!
Pics on my instagram for those interested in the area (search for my user name).

Ahhh it all makes sense now. I stopped at the point where you were high fiving people. I thought the group of you were probably from lfgss but couldn't stay and chat too much as I still had 50 miles to ride!
Most of my pics are on my instagram for those interested - account is just my username.
For those interested next year we stayed at darwin forest and would recommend it. Dog friendly and very private. 10inute drive or 30inute ride to bakewell.

@7ven I am very sorry, I hope Saturday and travelling goes okay.
@TheBonk do you have a 39 pair nestled in there? After some for my wife.
If anyone is interested in riding the 100 mile route let me know, I am just going to paddle around so a bit of company would be great. I will be taking my Merckx that has refused to sell... cable routing is under the bar tape but other than that it is compliant.

Thanks for the tips. Smidge ordered.
If anyone has any gpx files that have good routes anywhere near those areas I would be very grateful!
Skinny, I would let you borrow mine but I need them for part of august. What about getting some alp-kit stuff? Sell them on when you are done and the difference will probably be the cost of a few beers anyway.

Spent the weekend exploring Dartmoor for my first UK based bikepacking trip. Took a new (to me) Pugsley with some Nates from Plymouth up through the hills and through some trails. I ran an apidura frame bag that I grabbed off my cx bike, an alpkit handlebar dry bag and fairweather saddle bag. Got myself a wild country by terra nova zephyros 2 tent. At 1.8kg I am very happy with it for 120 odd quid. Thanks to everyone for their reviews. Being not from the UK I would never have given alp kit a look in, but I am glad I did.
Am now planning 1 week in Scotland in July. Travelling with a mate to Inverness, where I have 6 days to get to Kilmartin. Any tips on possible routes? Was thinking Cairngorm and then down via fort William, but no idea really. I will be on the pugsley and my friend will be on my old rigid cannondale mtb.

So I have just moved to the UK and have no more use for my Merckx.
It is a 58cm Corsa Extra, 58cm square, in Team ADR colours. There are some minor chips etc (as pictured) but nothing significant - frame is true and has been treated a year ago. The middle cable guide on the top tube was damaged in transit, but it hasn't impacted on the bike at all.
The groupset is Campy C Record, with Deltas and levers and an aero seat post. Pantod cinelli stem and cinelli merckx bars. The crankset is the mercury finish C - Record.
The wheelset is c record hubs to mavic tubs. The hubs are amazing, I honestly think they roll smoother than my Zipps and C24s. I should have a spare tub somewhere I can provide.
I am looking for c£900 (updated) to pay for a CX bike. Not in a hurry to sell so don't mind waiting and may even part out and turn the frame into a porteur and sell off groupset. Not trying to be unreasonable so happy to take offers and viewings.
Can provide more pics on request, having some trouble uploading so will update asap.
I am in NW5. Bike comes with an invitation for a couple of beers in my backyard if it is picked up.
Mods - if I have missed anything please let me know and I will amend asap.

@Rox What length are you doing? I am tossing up between 200 and 135 but was just be rolling on my own, happy to meet up if you want company.
Also, if anyone is interested in going for a roll on the saturday, I am riding from Castellina to Gaiole to check out the market. Would be keen to go for a good 70km or so before getting to gaiole. Meet up would be good also.
^ This doesn't surprise me. A hell of a lot of athletes would have little to no knowledge of biological systems and medical testing.
Someone in Dubai that I used to see around the traps just got popped for clenbuterol and oxandrolone. All to get around cape epic in the 40+ cat, slightly faster than otherwise. Unbelievable. Claimed it was ventolin and antihistimes that caused a false positive.
The only positive (well not the only one) is that he is now on the same UCI list as Luca Paolini.
