  • same as really. let's see how it goes.

  • See you there at 8 @KT_Bee

  • Still at work :( over running power down.

Might be a bit late... Don't wait if I'm not there.

  • about to leave work at 03:30... not good.

  • .

  • ^ Same. Crackin' day for it too.

Enjoy the headwind on the way back...

  • Started late so didnt see anyone at the start.. At the cafe now...

  • That was great. Lea bridge rd grim on the rtn, but otherwise a tremendous route. We enjoyed! Thanks to the organisors

  • Amazing day. Thanks for organising @Shannonball and the rest of the ICC crew. Managed it in 7hr 33min on the audax tank.

Now recovering the @hippy way. First beer since Christmas.

Apologies to Apollo (whats his forum name?) for not staying for beers at LMNH.

  • Rochefort 10, you really are doing it the hippy way. Good stuff!

You lot weren't riding around Cheshunt were you? It was right at the end of my 600 so I was picking off riders left right and centre - they were everywhere :)

  • For some reason the local offie just went mental on craft beer.

Yeah there about .. only one loon on TT bike on this audax. What time were you there? This audax had no beards only serious roadies with their powermeters.

  • We spotted a whole 2 beards, actually. And one Caradice.

  • Any rhubarb?

  • I had a beard. And a Carradice. Do I win a prize?

  • Amusingly, if I had gone full beard and sandals and took a printout of the route sheet, I wouldn't have gotten lost around Ongar when my Garmin 800 died. Fortunately my watch I was using as a backup has a compass thing on it, so I managed after various wrong turns to find Epping Forest, and I know my way from there. Managed to add another 30km to the ride though. Gah. Legs hurt.

  • Loughton can fuck right off. What a hive of cunts. Twit in a smart car chucked a coke bottle at us, then we were harassed by some entitled audi-driving douche, obviously aggrieved that we held him up for two seconds on his pointless journey to nowhere.

    Otherwise, quite a nice spin.

  • ^We had a few issues with road ragey types,,,and a thrown bottle of coke at us ,,,

  • add another 30km

    Oof!

  • Yeah lovely day for it. Some big groups out on the roads. Essex is the best riding around London for road quality. It just needs a few more big hills.

  • Mixed day for me, hit a pothole after about 17 miles at speed and had a spill, skinned my fingers, banged up my knee, thigh and elbow quite bad.

After taking stock and some help from @omash27 who happened upon chance to be behind me, I decided to take a dose of HTFU and get on with it. Spent the next few miles bleeding all over myself until I got to a garage and got some bits to patch myself up.

Smashed through the first 120k, started struggling a bit, I didn't take enough of a break at the control at lunch, it was so busy I pushed on until I found a shop, had a co-op pasta salad which annoyingly made me feel sick for the next hour.

At about 160k my thigh was giving me trouble and I was cramping, decided to stop at the pub and had half an ale, some salted peanuts, a bit of the epic flapjack I had left and a gel which sorted me out.

Picked up a reasonable pace on the way back but was suffering, the route back is grim but unavoidable.

Great day out, despite my off.

Glad I carried on a finished as last year I would have packed for certain. Another one ticked off for RRTY.

  • kudos to you sir

  • Hey mate
Hope you heal up and if you leg still sore in next 48 hours I would get it checked out.
Your fall scared the crap out of me and my club mates.
Top effort for carrying on tho.

  • Wanted to say i didnt saw @amey, but it was you on a rychtarski!
Thanks to organisers. What a lovely route.
Few miles after that school checkpoint, there was a nasty pothole, going down the road, on a curve, I prayed that no one get into that.

  • Apparently that was the biggest Audax ever held in the UK with 400 places, not sure how many actually started?

Fair play to the organisers, as everything was quick and efficient all day. Very friendly club, from the members riding and the ones manning the controls everyone was lovely!
