Then ride it geared. Optionally take an oath of not changing gear during the ride :)

YAL has a bike that needs the exercise.

YAL could live comfortably in one of my shoes

“A Hard Day in January made harder by riding a bike about 5 sizes too small” has a certain ring to it, no?

Chainguard means I can't tell if this is singlespeed. Are you sure it's eligible?

was told i shouldnt use upright bars for this ride so i have decided to use the dolan instead. i dont see what the problem would have been myself

...sorry about the painful reminder.
Hopefully, as Clubman said, the fact that you are fit and healthy will result in a quick return.

I'll be on cut-loop h bars probably if i have time to swap or just a standard flat bar - if you are comfortable over distance in that set up then i wouldn't let that stop you riding. I wouldn't want to ride it in full dutch bike mode though.

Do you want to borrow my Genesis Flyer?
its a large, has all requisite attachments and knows the route.
I wont use it untill Tuesday evening now, so as long as its collected from SE1 before 19-00 today HDIJers are welcome to borrow it.

I could even come grab it and stash it at mine just down the road for someone to collect later in the week if that helps...

Ok I’m out. Maybe next year :(

Well I've not used the mountain bike bars over any distance of about 40 miles so Il'l just stick with drop bars, pressure on my hands is pretty much non existent when pushing a little harder and seeing as this ride is shaping up to be 6 hours+ of pretty hard riding my hands should be fine!

Pencilling this in in my brain. Need to break the ice this year and this seems like a good motivation. Not good at early rising and 4okm ride to start though. Maybe a Staines wild camp in order...

It would be a good idea to name a finishing point at Staines so that if anyone does get dropped towards the end, they will know where to go.
I have just found the Hard Day Trophy, which I will bring along to present to the 'most meritorious rider'. We won't want to be making that presentation out in the road.
Last year's pub (I forget the name) was OK, but a bit crowded. We have used the Swan Hotel in the past (next to the bridge on the Egham side), also OK, but I'm not sure how pleased they were to get a bunch of bedraggled cyclists. I don't mind myself, but a decision should be made before the start.

i don't know Staines at all to give / have a view on a good finishing point. Hotel sounds like a better option than a pub and happy to put up with a few dirty looks to have a seat and a recovery Guinness.
No fixies or single speeds right now.
Was expecting to glue some dropouts on this week but oxy/prop setup is faulty :(
