Just did this route over the weekend. I had probably better light but possibly worse roads than you did.

Man, it is properly hard. I don't think I could do it fixed, but single-speed is doable. 70ish gear inches would be ok. Christmas Common climb was very muddy (many many branches from the storm on Sunday morning).

Thanks for sharing the route, I will do a variations around Henley and maybe join you one year if time allows.

PS where did you stop en route. I passed many pubs yesterday morning... (Big H cafe, found it upthread)

PPS If you want a punchier ride start and finish at Taplow or Burnham on the line out of Paddington. There isn't anything at Eton apart from a second rate school
