  • Fantastic day. Props to all the organisers and everyone involved. Alas it was me who crashed in the Men’s B Final.
Apologies for all the chaos and destruction it caused. Hope noone else was hurt and that I didn’t delay the main event too much. I still need to see if I can salvage the GoPro footage (anyone else got any shots of the crash?)

Heard clapping as we drove past in the ambulance which was much appreciated. Love this community!!

  • I hope you feeling well!!!
    All best mate

  • Nice work @PhilDAS !
    -you too @laner ;)

  • Sorry we couldn't get the car (then ambulance) round to you sooner @Si88

Apparently the roadies racing at LVV are NHS frequent-flyers so don't feel too bad.

Get well soon (your axles left some impressively long parallel lines on the track btw).

  • Get well soon, looked like a last lap racing incident from my POV. Did you lose the back wheel accelating out?

There's a very brief onboard clip at the end of this. I'm the one on the red Dolan who just missed it, proper brown trouser moment.

And cheers for the photos @PhilDAS

  • I was right behind the rider who crashed, basically from my perspective the insider rider was drifting out of the corner and leaned onto the outside rider who basically lost his front wheel and caused a chain reaction behind them. Luckily (till this day I still don’t know how I did it) whip skidded the left side of the crash and avoided the crash completely.

But by then I was dropped from the main end of the race and my made up my mind and decided to slow down and ride slowly to the finish line as I felt it wasn’t worth chasing for 10th + places.

    Hope @si88 HTFU soon.

  • @Si88 hope you heal up fast. I’ve seen a couple of clips emerge of the aftermath of your accident, but nothing on how it came about.

Plenty for me to learn for next year with regards to safety briefings and how to handle race timings.

I’m working on collecting as many images and videos as possible for the race, so if people want to send stuff to me at rob@nltcbmbc.com that would be awesome!

In other news, good to see outlets like cycling hub picking up videos from the race and sharing them to a wider audience. This is the last lap bunch sprint for 4th to 10th+ from on board Georg Mew Jensen’s Bike. Check out the kick from Justin Williams at the end to take the sprint and the screams from the Roberto Pagliaccia for his team mates (Cykeln Division Corse) to let him through on the inside because the outside was blocked and he couldn’t launch. He finished 7th in the end.

  • Yeah I’ve seen a few videos and my own onboard go pro footage seems to support your narrative @HoKe.
I had no idea the crash took out so many others behind as well. Apologies to all.

@roboto I’m reall not sure there’s anything more you could have done from a race director point of view.

Crash aside, that B Final was absolutely the ride of my life and I had the best time chasing down wheels and moving up the order.

Now to rest up and get strong. I’ll be back ASAP and 100% keen on racing Thundercrit again!

  • I just about missed that crash myself - squeaky bum time! Thanks NLTCBMBC for a wicked day, I've fancied a fixed crit ever since watching RHC London last year. So much to learn - positioning, cornering and going out hard. Got caught out on all 3 in the heat but a marked improvement in the B final! The racing was much safer than I expected, naturally the lower placings in the heats and the B final is a lot less competitive so maybe the safety decreases as you get quicker?!

A UK series akin to the NL crit series would be fantastic but very logistical I guess. Could be a decent money spinner though. We have minimal options to race at home and I'd love to do more

  • @roboto thanks to you and all the organisers and volunteers really great day racing! @Si88 didn't know you were on here - htfu man

  • Couldn’t make it down to watch this year but enjoyed this
