  • OK so the frame is on its way from Lyndhurst to Wiltshire! Rad colour. Robbie from the Woods, very conscientiously, called this morning to convey some free seat clamp beausage courtesy of Air Canada and followed it up with this pic. That's a nice gesture from Woods as it's less than insignificant, IMO.

The Allygn has arrived from Seabass too. It's cute! I'm thinking of re-purposing the NDS light bracket provided to attach PDW's Gino knock-off on the DS.

    momento mori if you will

  • Very nice silver bits.

Like the full silver M739 levers. Were they actually original from the factory or have people swapped over the levers/bodies from black silver pairs? I’ve never been sure.

  • I think original M739 levers were always a black and silver combo; my all silver ones were likely an eBay seller homebrew. Quite like them.

  • If you want silver bits, remember Hope (too rowdy looking?) do a few colours. These silver and blue bore and reservoir ones might go good, bad or ugly!!!

EDIT: Mind me, I was thinking of the Cladenstine.

  • Yes that's what I thought, I might buy a pair in the opposite combo and swap the levers around!

  • nice parts you got there!

  • Hope brakes would pair nicely with the Middleburns in a Eau de Brexit boi sorta way. The Clandy is rim brake though!

Cheers @bigshape, took a few choice bits off the Riv before listing it for sale.

Frame is due to arrive tomorrow, still waiting for the seatpost to land and wheels to be built. Other than that, the following bits left to source:

    1. 100/110mm silver stem, if I settle on Dream Risers instead of CowCows;
    2. brake cables and outers (kept all the brass ferrules and cable ends from the Riv, as you do); and
    3. neutral grips, maybe Oury glow-in-the-darks, if tan ESIs look offensive.
  • out of curiosity, do they have logos on the backs of the blades?

  • The frame's here, it's so nice! Looks darker here than it actually is.

  • Lovely. Something tells me that seatpost clamp would look better matching the headset. The closest I could see off a quick search is the Salsa Lip-lock in a similar colour, but the aesthetics are a bit different to the frame.

  • Alas, it's an integrated clamp. Lip-Locks are great.

  • Two thumbs up for baby pink components (was gonna say ‘bits’ but context is important). Shabash for slightly shorter chain stays tho. 👏🏾

  • The headset looks great, the skeletor patch would go well on this bike too!

  • Thanks for all the dopamine hits folks. So here's an update:

    1. the seatpost has arrived, typical Nitto finish;
    2. settled on the Dream Risers, with a panda-ish Zipp 110mm stem on order.
    3. installed the Allygn (struts uncut till it's all finished) and the FD DT shifter. It's refreshing how unfussy the fork crown area looks without rim brakes nestled under the rack.
    4. will replace the factory m5 dome bolts (3mm heads, why!!) with 4mm brass cap heads from the Riv, except for the pair of load-bearing rack bolts.

Why? Its not like you need to tighten these ones very hard so I don't see the issue with 3mm .

  • Why?

Because they look really cool :)

  • nice job on this,

i always think having a 3 colour palette looks way better than 2 colour, especially on something as visually busy as a bicycle , the pink yellow blue works lovely

autistically made this articulate the vibe

  • "Juicy", I'll take that!

  • Also to add - damn I have missed the humble powder coat! The Riv's finish was wet paint and very smart, but not the most robust. Small bits of paint would quite easily come off the hourglass rack mounts, mudguard bosses, dropouts and seat clamp without being heavy-handed. No big deal for most, but I feel a lot more 'at home' with this.

  • Alright so I installed the Middleburns (RS8 X-types, taken off the 73mm BB Riv) which, unsurprisingly, sit quite wide on the Hog’s 68mm road BB, i.e. 2cms between the chainstays and crank arms. The cranks are designed for both so the NDS retainer ring needed winding in quite a bit to take up the slack.

    Two concerns:

The Bassi’s chainline is 45.5mm and the Middleburn duo spider’s chainline is supposedly 52mm in the outer ring. I’ve never really focussed much on chainlines so will 6.5mm make a real world difference? FWIW I’ll be using a 8sp 11–40t cassette.

Second, the outer chainring is really quite far out from the ST. The FD (M737) looks like it should have enough throw to perch over the big ring, but I’m waiting on a ST derailer shim before I can install it and be sure of that.

Other than the visual gap, the Q-factor is unlikely to be an issue as I’ve used these cranks merrily now for a couple of years.

  • Are the cranks tightened up in the second photo? It looks like the spindle is visible between the chainrings?

  • Yup, that’s the lock ring for the spider.

    Edit: you were quite right!
