I just can't make my mind up on if they're too silly or not. But realistically I think the black SRAM levers would annoy me more!

Trp 8.4 are the bees knees

• #104
You shouldn't really care when the glaring canti issue is staring you right in the face.
-
• #105
S500 feel much better than the trp rrl in my opinion.
-
• #106
Agree. But not as good as some old campag levers and rip the shifting gubbins out.
-
• #107
And you’ve tried both? Looking at them I’d figured that the s500s would be comfier, just by looking at the shape. Maybe I should hold off sending the SRAMs back until I’ve had both them and the TRPs in my hands.

You can swap the axel easily enough. Quite a satisfy job actually.
-
• #109
I have tried both, yes, but of course there's a lot of personal preference involved. I think an in-the-hand assessment is a good idea as long as the period for making returns is long enough to allow it.

• #110
Funny question, can you easily remove the lever from the s500s? If so, I’d rather just stick with the SRAMs and strip them if I think they look wrong on the bike.
-
• #111
I'm not sure. Someone else may know. However I will say I think they are going to look just fine. Nowt wrong with mixing a bit of silver and black componentry.
-
• #112
I found the TRPs more comfy than the SRAM so I'll be the devil on the other shoulder
-
• #113
i'd second that. sram 500s are not the comfiest
-
• #114
All I really have to compare is relatively modern shifters with a flatter top and older aero levers which I hate. I guess getting both might be the reasonable option.

Also. Progress! Had to get 70mm stem rather than 80mm as they only had 130 and 70 in stock.
Hopefully it’ll be alright, slightly shorter than my road bike but that should be fine for commuting.

Hopefully you're gonna put some spacers between the canti hanger and stem, yes?
Otherwise cable angle may be a tad tight.
-
• #117
Weyhey, it's a frame!
-
• #118
Yeah deffo! It's a comfy commuter, spacers incoming!
-
• #119
Phew!
I really like that colour, gonna look rather classy with silver bits.
-
• #120
I hope it does. It is likely to be the only ever classy bike I ever build.
-
• #121
Ah, you're still young, plenty of time to build other classy bikes.
How's the healing coming along?
-
• #122
Had a check up appointment yesterday and they seem happy with how it’s all healing. Face looks back to normal aside from a bloodshot eye. Eating is still pretty tricky for the most part. Started new job and have caught a rough cold via my son at nursery.
But that’s all irrelevant because I am soon to have a new bike. And my new helmet arrived today so I’m firmly back on the path to cycling soon!

This is going to be good!

Much nicer feeling levers with better aesthetics too :)
