I think we would struggle to sell it at all tbh
I'm probably in the fix it camp, just, but If you do go the scrappage route, you're probably best whacking it on ebay, clearly listing all the issues and there'll be someone who'll buy it and be able to fix most of them themselves. Usually you'll get a better price for it (strong YMMV caveat here, though)
Always hard to know when to cut your losses, though.

I can do a three year lease which includes all servicing and insurance under a salary sacrifice scheme, has anyone done anything like that?
Haven't owned a car for 30+ years just rented occasionally so I have no idea what I'm doing.

Fuck me. No wonder every cunt is driving around in a Merc or Flange Rover.

I just cycled past a blacked out humvee parked on a completely standard 1930s suburban street. Amazing looking thing but talk about wank panzers
-

Nhs ? My wife is looking at it but I think maybe just for new cars

There used to be one of those 'popular with rappers' people carrier things parked near us. It had 25% more car sticking into the road. Looked fucking ridiculous in the UK.
In Oz and USA, massive cars are normal (dumb, but normal) but in Europe they really stand out as being fucking stupid. -

Don’t be so quick to condemn. They do an electric one now so the owner could actually be saving the planet.
It has 1000 horsepowers and weighs 4000kg.

I am always in the fix it camp but in this case we have decided we are cutting out losses.
Sorry @hugo7 - your council is wise - but nuking our pitiful savings to pay for a fix - feels risky in the moment.
Can’t really eBay the car as is immobile and on the garage forecourt and they want rid quick. I also don’t have time to fuck around with viewings admin etc. again not probably the most cost effective thing to do but sometimes Path of Least resistance wins. Also I webuyanycar’d it and even if it was running the estimate was only 580.
Excited to be car free - better build some bikes with functional features !
Thanks for the advice all.

Yes yes. I know really.
My dream new car is the Dacia Jogger. 7 seats, 1200kg, zingy 1.0 litre turbo, £17k.
VW want £60k for an ID Buzz. The world has actually gone actual mad.
-
• #88
Yeah thats the one. Ours is via NHS Fleet Solutions and they do have some pre-leased cars that are cheaper compared to brand new.

My dream car is no car.
Anyone wanna buy a Forester? I didn't do any racing last year so it's basically a garden shed with wheels.

• #90
Hold up - my brother is looking for one of those -DM if serious

• #91
Cool ta
-
• #92
Oh, I'm definitely going to get rid of it, just depends on other stuff falling into place first. How soon does he want one?
-
• #93
Reasonably soon but not critical - feel free to dm deets and I’ll pass on to see if of interest.

I just filled in my details on the website, but it looks like a waiting list/trial right now. Do you have any inside info? Where did the £300 a month come from?
I like the idea of a no hassle, insurance and service covered car that can also be used by other people to reduce the impact.
-
• #95
I previously was on the trial. They are fairly responsive but perhaps the trial is fully subscribed.
The £300 a month is from personal experience. Invariably you want the car over the same period as it would be rented out.

Think I'm in this boat again following MOT - £700 fix for a car which cost £1400 3 years ago. Think I'm gonna get it fixed so I can browse a replacement at leisure as I don't want to rush and buy scrap.
What's the honda jazz of the estate/people carrier market. I'm thinking Mondeo, Octavia, C-max, v70. What are the good Japanese options?
-

good Japanese options
Subaru Legacy? But a bit thirsty, and don't buy the later diesel

According to this new report:
You’ll be wanting a Mazda. Added bonus that 6 estate is pretty handsome.

my old Ford Galaxy was great - 2011. Not ULEZ and it had done 130000 miles by the time I got rid of it

After all these tips I got myself a 2006 Fiat Panda in December. 119k on the clock, 1 owner, full service history. Crammed it with a 12-month warranty. Absolutely loving it.
I think we would struggle to sell it at all tbh - there’s lots of not terminal - but broken / grotty bits. Door doesn’t close if you open it fully - headlining falling off - speakers shot - abs/tyre sensors faulty - missing bits upholstery / plastic inside -mouldy bits from leaks - back wiper motor dead - smells like arse… I could go on.
