  • In a month or so my mate will have a complete GRX groupset to sell

  • Ah well...if they want to sell me some 400 2x10 shifters and an RD I would be in the market and appreciative!

  • I'm also on the look out for Hope Pro 4 142 x 12 rear hub and a 100x12 dynamo front hub, 27.5 rims.

  • this is shaping up to be quite a PDF build

  • I'm not looking to express my unique personality through crank choice.

  • I’ve asked him when they will be available and will let you know

  • He says earliest likely is June

  • Has anyone else noticed that middle aged straight men will literally pay anything for a bit of M5 threaded spaff that will hold their dynamo light at the "optimal" position?

I refuuuuuuse. Made one mount out of hardwood but it has broken twice now since the 3d shape puts the grain across a short dimension somewhere. This weekend's tinkering will be to bodge a replacement out of some folded sheet metal. I've almost certainly spent more than 25 quid so far but you know something something sunk cost

  • Just make two, sell the second one for 25 quid.

  • Progress continues.

  • Wheels... The Hope Pro4 rear is a lock as mentioned above.

Front there's a choice between SP or SON dynamo. As I've got Edelux front + rear lighting it'll be important to keep the brand synergy intact and get the SON.

Rims are either WTB KOM i25 or DT Swiss EX471. I like the look of DT Swiss better. So I'll get them.

Tyres either Teravail Sparwood or Rutland in 650 x 2.1. Cannot fathom the difference between them. Has anyone got a PDF?

  • sparwood - you don't need the extra traction of the rutland to cruise round center parks

  • Center Parcs (tm) is probably the only place in the UK that contains actual gravel and as such is a great gravelpacking destination.

  • Oh hello fellow Faran build. Looking forward to seeing one with really beefy tyres.

    Brand synergy

    Saying all the right things.

You should strip and polish the grx crank.

What’re you thinking for bottle cages bags?

  • Thinking nitto type rack/bag support and a handlebar bag/rando bag (?)

Not sure what size, what to spend, etc. Not really into any of the pdf brands.

  • Brifters obtained. Kind of a brutal price for used shifters I feel but I was in a rush to "just get it done" because of anxiety.

  • Wheels have been built but I feel a bit sick about how much they cost. It seemed fun speccing them with my cycle scheme voucher but when I got the actual bill I turned a funny colour. Also the LBS is rammed with business right now (obviously) so to keep costs down I'm going to try and do some of the work on this build myself and just take it in to get the brakes sorted.

I think I should be able to do the drivetrain, gearing, tubeless set up and dynamo (inshallah)

Firstly the part I know least about, if I have one of these wanker lights but it has two cables (which were cut pretty short). I guess there's no way to connect it to one of these fancy looking junction boxes and I should just braid in + heatshrink two extension cables down to the hub (which seems better than trying to deal with coax cable at home)

Or should I be trying to do something with "Spade connectors"

  • feel a bit sick about how much they cost

Dynamo lights look so much nicer than battery lights though, get all the costs out the way early and just enjoy it. you should be able to get a junction box and solder it on, then put some heat shrink over?

    Here: https://www.sjscycles.co.uk/dynamos/schmidt-coaxial-junction-box-male-connector-w-coaxial-adapter-80-cm/

    Used shifters are ridiculous money

    inshallah

    there's a sticker for that @pdlouche

  • Inshallah/Mashallah stickers were made a year or two ago yep

  • Wheels have been built but I feel a bit sick about how much they cost. It seemed fun speccing them with my cycle scheme voucher but when I got the actual bill I turned a funny colour.

    This is good and natural.

    So is this.

Call me out for being a smug nerd who used to solder widgets as a kid, but I think coax and dyno connectors aren't too difficult to DIY. A fresh craft knife, 10 quid iron, and youtube will get you through it. Practice on some scraps if possible.

  • Do I actually need the junction box? I'm not likely to try running a charger, it just looked like a neat solution. I do notice that every other son component on sjs is out of stock

Technically I'm an electronic engineer with access to fancy soldering stuff and etc so this should be easy. Just makes me nervous.

  • Ooh yeah, not a lot of room for error there.

  • I was originally going to take it to the shop that cut it and get them to do the soldering, but as above...idk now.

Assembling a PDF bike on an eBay budget is tricky. Can see where the money goes very easily.
