No AstroTurf? Are you even British

Failte! I’ve bought Maj’s sim works risers so progress
My thinking so far
1x11 set up (microspline freehub too punchy)
M7000 - should I go lower to save cash? I don’t know about MTB groups
11-46 on the rear
Wolftooth 38 on my old 105 cranksI have some short pull Klampers I had intended for this, but I am second guessing then vs shimano hydraulics if I’m going to do actual riding

I think generally go higher end for shifters, for nicer feel and cheaper for derailleurs as they're more likely to get broken

Unlike with road/drop bar stuff, mtb hydros can be had so cheaply now that it's not really worth getting mechanical anymore

Are those rear panniers as Altura Ultralight ones? How are they?
Sorry to derail thread obviously

Flat bar hydraulic is so cheap I don't know who would bother with mechanical, maybe very specific cases like very remote touring, or bikes that break apart or something.
I dunno exactly why it is that hydraulic is so crazy expensive on drop bar, I guess the complexity of the shifters and some economies of scale, but even lever only systems like trp hylex seem to cost a million bucks.

I got them for price and didn't expect excellent performance, but i just family toured the netherlands coast for 2 weeks with and almost daily rain, occasionnaly very heavy, so i guess this qualifies as an in depth review and a positive one, if weight is a factor.
In short, they performed above expectation when it comes to waterproofness.
The attachement is only hooked straps so it won't last forever, but overall It's basically 3 bags for the price of one fancy gravel ortlieb. The sizing is very good with the rolltop system quite flexible. Also : Trp hylex is probably x10 more reliable and fit and forget than anything else so pricing seems gentle in comparison.

They basically seem like if they photographed them on a bespoke pannier rack on the back of a rigid 29er in poop tones with a bit of Cali dust on it they could do them as ultralight bike packing panniers and double the price.

Sorry to derail thread
Don’t be, it’s perfect
@Josh … were you not anti-Faran for romance reasons but heart set a flutter by thinking of another CDF???
@BareNecessities thank you, I have appreciated the advice. I’ve been buying bits off eBay which has proven more unreliable than usual.

It’s been a busy week or 2 here with finishing my job and getting into a load of home improvement stuff. However
I’ve built a wheel for the CAAD - it’s only a front, radially laced, and it’s not true as I don’t have a stand yet. But it was fun! Took longer than expected. I’m working from Roger Musson’s book. DT240s of eBay, DCR 24/25 rims, silver D-Light spokes. This was one of the big things I wanted to get done between jobs. Next the rear!
I’ve been collecting bits for making my Faran flat bar - it’ll go back to drops for winter when I bin off the CAAD, so planning to take the whole bar/ brakes/ derailleurs assembly off and keep in one piece… probably naive. I’m disproportionately scared of hydros so will use the Klampers I have been sitting on for ages. I’ve got bars, stem, grips, rear D, gear cable kit, brake callipers, brake levers. I still need
- cable brake housing kit
- Shifter (got lost in post)
- Cassette - 11-46/47
- 1x chainring set up - Wolftooth on 105, a 5x110 NW ring on the rotor crankset
Changed to black bars and tried the cannondale Hex silicon tape after PhilDAS recommended. I’m so shit at wrapping tape, but this isn’t glued so can spend endless hours rewrapping later. I like it! Feels good, glad I can reuse it when I changes bars. This have an old ergo bend and I do NOT like it.
I have new chainrings but this hidden bolt system has me undone. I could buy a vice, that would be fun. But for 1 job? Fucking SRAM! Or take whole spider off and get another chainring bolt.

I remember you saying you were going, how old is your LO again and how did they cope with all the rain??

Dope risers. How wide are they?

Well well well....
The CDF is actually the blueprint for the faran.
And as it happens... I've picked up formentioned 2012 CDF in 60cm (the right size). However it's taken a knock and is bent, badly and needz bending back.... Keep me posted

Just turned 7 in june.
We got a bit of everything ! Rain, lots of wind, but sun too, and the landscape is great on the coast and islands.
Bike touring with kids isn't easy but with 14 hours outside you habe time to adjust schedule to navigate climate and everything you have to deal with in a touring day. It's harder the years when you have to think about nappies
....
Sometimes you wish you were normal and wanted a greek island holiday but kids are resilient they just love to camp and travel :) -

Oh, that's cool! Super excited to see the Faran with risers.

Riser Faran is a great development, I’m looking forward!

• #172
Got any photos of it built in riser mode yet?
In a complete coincidence, I’ve just bought a Faran frameset and had the idea to initially run it with really high rise mtb bars and single speed while I plan out a proper long term build.
Lemme see yours!

I did that with the Niner. SS stayed, massive rise bars were hilarious fun for a while, but needed a really long stem. Reckon this will work on the Faran.
I got some similar Soma bars on the touring bike and they’ll stay with me for life. Comfy fun.
